A Political Thread pt. 2

The number of dead is staggering, especially considering the majority were civilians - I've seen that 150-250 were massacred at a music festival with many hostages taken too. Citizens from most large western countries killed and/or taken hostage (such as the German woman whose dead body was paraded through the streets and spat on, at least 2 Brits, a french citizen, multiple Americans etc.).

Feel like no one's going to be trying to temper Israel's retaliation - seen a lot of analysts refer to this as their 9/11/Pearl Harbour moment, both in terms of numbers of lives lost comparative to population, and it being the moment where the gloves truly come off.

This whole area is a time bomb, was always saying it. That's why I, personally, would never move there for a long-term period. There's a mobilization in Israel right now,as far as I read (and heard from my acquaintances from Israel).
It's not the first and not the last conflict there, unfortunately

I mean with israel's treatment of Palestine and in Gaza especially it doesn't take a rocket science to figure that out

All out siege ordered on Gaza. Nuts. Netanyahu's strategy has failed and he is compounding it even more.
I think this is Netanyahu's Falklands. He will take a hard stand and ride a wave of support, possibly to the extent he can continue to ride roughshod over the law. I don't think it's a stretch to say his entire political future and possibly future out of jail rests on building popular support off the back of this in Israel. Israel traditionally don't give a **** what the rest of the world think so there is no reason to believe the actions of the state will be done with any regard for international perception, only domestic.

Traditionally Israel also have most of the west support just due to America

I do wonder how many Republicans who are opposing further support to Ukraine will be calling for more aid to Israel. It's the most bizarre case of the tail wagging the dog probably in global history. The mount of influence Israel has over US politics is so out of whack with their relative power on the world stage.

Ukraine have thrown their support fully behind Israel (despite Israel staying out of the Ukraine/Russia conflict) and Russia is throwing their support behind the Arab League/Palestine/HAMAS, presumable because of their need to cosy up to Iran for weapons

Only going to get messier

This is quite important, especially in the content of the iran allegations
Robert Peston suggesting Iran possibly gave a decent amount of planning and prep support. US and Europe concerned Israel might have a crack at Iran causing further tensions in the middle east.

Apparently Netanyahu was already warned by his head of security services that there would be an attack of this nature but he didn't listen. This one is bad but Israeli politics is a complete mess anyway. How this plays out once the army have killed and rescued whatever hostages are left remains to be seen. But the last major war I believe it was the Yom Kippur war, the PM lasted only 6 months after.
