A Political Thread pt. 2

What I don't get is the inconsistency of the application of the voter ID rules. Why mandate for in person voting but not for postal votes?

Because I imagine most postal votes are older or wealthier voters which equals conservative.
In which case I don't see an issue, other than the reason given is false (ie tackling a problem that isn't a problem). It would be useful for people who don't have a drivers licence and passports are expensive.
Thing is you can apply for a free ID but people aren't aware and the whole thing has been rushed, but Conservatives know that any issues will affect other parties more.

Sweden has had ID cards for many years. They're basically domestic passports and have a lot of practical benefits. When you move home for example you simply update your address online with the HMRC equivalent (who hold everyone's personal information in a central database) and they send regular updates to banks, councils, dentists, doctors, mobile phone companies etc. meaning you don't have to fill out multiple forms and tell anyone that you've moved.

If you walk into a shop or a bank to get a mortgage or mobile phone contract they read your ID card and punch in your national insurance number into their system and can retrieve your personal details which negates the need for credit checks, proof of address requirements etc. It's really convenient and tbh there would be much more hassle without them.

There are obviously data security risks but these also exist in the UK.

When did Labour introduce voter ID?
Ah my mistake, what you meant to say is that the Torys are scum for bringing in voter ID. By default any government that has brought in voter ID law, So governments in Germany, France are scum when they brought in voter ID law. Because some parties in those countries were likely to have been more impacted upon than others.

This is part of the problem with modern politics branding conservatives scum etc it is not going to win back votes. Brexit supporters who are thick racists etc. Those thick, scum racists brexit supporters paticularly in the red wall areas are the people Labour needed to attract back.

If they do is Labour then a party supported by thick scum racists or do they automatically stop being that when they vote Labour. Equally this applies to people branding Labour voters Champagne Socialists, woke libtards etc. I think that was part of the problem with Brexit, it was a ultimately a big f#ck you by the people being branded not very nice things.

I'm sure we have people in this forum who vote conservative and those who vote Labour. None are scrum nor are they woke libtards. The majority are kind, decent people just with different views and priorities. (Unless you support Tigers where I'm told all the mean things about them are true)

You're inferring a whole lot of ******** I never said. I'm not talking about Tory voters being scum (well maybe some) I'm talking about the party. And yes, when you look at why they're doing this, to suppress democracy, I say they're scum.

Apologies if you took it that way. It was a general point on the use of language and the divide caused by both sides yet they are both trying to attract the other sides voter's dispite the factions, language, divisions, name calling etc.

To be fair, it is astonishing how she got anywhere near power.
Not really. Play the party game then when you get the chance offer a load of tax cuts to people too stupid to thinks its a bad idea and hey presto you have Liz Truss

Plus present a competent British Asian candidate versus an incompetent White English candidate and guess who the Conservative Party members are going to vote for?

Rees Mogg and his ERG cronies viewed Truss as the candidate they were able to control best. She was basically their puppet. They just underestimated how useless she was and her ability to cling onto power.

Probably doesn't paint the protestors in a great light but still exercising their freedom of speech and right to protest. Interesting the abuse they have gotten.
