A Political Thread pt. 2

At least I can breathe a sigh if relief.

Still need a general election but at least Sunak won't be insanely wreckless....I hope.

Also high entertainment in Johnsons coming over to be humiliated in not getting 100 backers.

Can't wait to see Rees Mogg sacked as business secretary unless he jumps first of course.

One of two things has happened here. Either he doesn't have 100 MPs and is lying by claiming that he does or he's received a tip off that he's likely to be found guilty of misleading Parliament and would only last a few weeks.

Boris's leadership bid started with the lie of having 100 supporters and ended with the same lie. Badenoch and Braverman backing Rishi makes it unlikely he'd make that 100.

So now we have Sunak the Covid law breaker and tax avoidance encourager versus Mordaunt who inserts references to cocks and sex acts into a parliamentary speech about poultry as part of a bet.

Yet this would legitimately seen as being onwards and upwards for the UK! :p

I think Labour may regret that fracking vote rather than keeping the completely unelectable Truss in power.

Truss was already massively struggling, whilst it was the killing blow she was already on her way out hence the Lettuce.

Mordaunt is on 24 votes per BBC, so she might not even make it tomorrow. So Rishi could win by default tomorrow.

Yeah I reckon Rishi will take on default. Either Mordaunt will concede to skip going to the racist members or some of her backers will switch.

If he actually had 102, there's no way he'd have pulled out.
Around 52 declared publicly which was around the 60 that a former minister before the contest predicted he actually had.

So, yes one way of him just saying he did get to the threshold, without proof but won't stand for the good of the country to save face as he knows he would lose.

Makes me respect him even less, if that was possible.

I just read Boris' statement confirming he was pulling out (Pardon?!). The arrogance is mind blowing - he really thinks the 2019 election mandate belongs to him personally and that it is still valid despite all the scandal, failures and him getting turfed out. We may never know but I find it very hard to believe that he had over100+ backers as he surely would have stood knowing it was in the bag with the membership. I suspect his claim was merely face saving dishonesty and I wouldn't be surprised if he and his cronies cause much trouble for Sunak behind the scenes.

I don't subscribe to Sunak being a COVID law breaker. I am very suspicious that of all the parties that Boris was fined for it was the one where Sunak was present and he was only in the room after a meeting had just finished after which they came in with birthday cake. I don't know if the met were influenced by No.10 but it wouldn't surprise me if Sunak was stitched up here.

Nads already calling for a general election. This only ends badly for Sunak but will last longer than Truss, I still think it will become ungovernable and he'll have to call a general election at some point next year.

Not sure if it will happen but I'd love to see the party break up. The Tory membership is not representative of the parliamentary party. Any future leadership election will see the membership vote for Boris or someone on the right wing. Centre right candidates only have a chance of winning if it's a coronation amongst MPs as it looks now with Sunak.

We really need a non-binary set up with more political parties to choose from (Far right, centre right, centre left and far left etc.) even if it means more coalition governments in the future. Broad church parties are starting to fail.
