Energy industry sources tell the BBC they expect an overall freeze in bills to be announced this week.

So Truss is considering an energy cap freeze, but quite possibly the one from the energy companies which instead the freeze being funded by say a windfall tax, the freeze is paid for in future bills. Talk about kicking the can down the road.

Get ready for that - if the Truss government gives us anything at all - expect it to be being paid back during a future government.
No-one expects Truss to be in office beyond 2024, so they'll happily cripple a future government with debt accrued now.

Some aren't expecting her to last until Christmas with a Johnson comeback on the cards. I don't believe that one myself but its an utter shambles we have a person no one really believes in almost certainly installed as PM in the next couple of hours.

Knowing Truss, her idea of an energy freeze is energy being expensive and the people freezing.

Same as the tax cut. It does almost nothing for those in poverty. The notion of growth is ridiculous because any growth goes to those who already have money. Low wage workers will see almost nothing of any 'growth'.

It's what they did with student loans. £6k per student written off from the national debt because it became a loan and not a grant so in theory it would be paid back. Completely ignored the fact that the majority will never pay it back, but who cares, that's for the future. Though they have already realised how big a shortfall it will be and are trying to change it.

Well now that huge waste of time is over, let's hope this new government at least does something. It's actually at the stage where I don't want to contemplate another failed Tory government because it will end up killing people.

I guess it comes down to how you define impressive. I personally put her on a par with Johnson in the impressive stakes but could understand someone arguing the other way. Either way it's all a load of bollix isn't it.

It'll be depressing watching the usual suspects who were part of Johnson's Govt walk up Downing Street tomorrow as she forms her cabinet. She is the continuity candidate after all. I also predict that her maiden speech as PM outside No.10 will be uninspiring and unconvincing.

Truss is going to be eviscerated in PMQs. Johnson could happily stand that and fluently lie and spout absolute crap, Truss won't be able to. She will try to be like Johnson and will fail, just as she has failed at everything else. If this is really the best the Tories have to offer, they should not be anywhere near power. If they have better but don't want to take up the mantle in difficult times, they should not be anywhere near power. If they want Johnson back and try to pretend he really wasn't that bad, they should not be anywhere near power. 4 PMs in 6 years all because the Tories care more about infighting and positioning within the party than they do about the country.

I don't like Johnson but I understand why he appeals to some people (those are the reasons id disqualify him from the job). I really don't get it with Truss.

He's certainly more charismatic and I get why some were impressed by that but then they also liked Johnson coz of the way he didn't talk the country down and was patriotic or whatever stupid nationalistic stuff he'd spout. Truss is onboard with all that which is probably part of her appeal to those same members. To them she appears strong, no nonsense, and in a weird way, her perceived stupidity kind of works out in her favour coz then it's just spun as " not a career politician" or part of the "metropolitan elite" or whatever delusional narrative they've brought into.

True, though you could argue that people were going to die regardless. Yes they made mistakes and they should be held accountable, but now we will have people dying because the government has chosen not to do enough rather than getting it wrong.

Its why I used 10's of instead of 100's of. The government response certainly led to needless deaths but we'll never the full extent.
