Has anyone actually got solar panels?

I'm considering it, but my property is on an East - West orientation.

Definitely would make sense for the government to bring in schemes to help with the cost

My thing with solar energy is more the battery cost

If I had a extra 20k I would get full solar panels and a couple of batteries

No, not yet. But yes long time investment and has to be worth it in terms of capturing the rays of sun. Good idea but up front capital cost is currently off putting.

Ideally have one of those Tesla or equivalent powerwall batteries do store the energy and power your home and car.

There was a government grant years ago IIRC. Now it's just no VAT on installation just announced. Not looked into it yet in enough detail.

Yep advice is take a picture and make sure it's time stamped as proof.
Tried Scottish power website, that's down. They say the app is working, but it's not and the 24 number to call says the number has not been recognised.

Bit of reading I did suggests RoI of about 15 years, although that is very general. I think at this stage it is a bit more of a nice to have but the issue is that evidence suggests solar panels do not add to the value of a house. This may change but if you move out before it has paid for itself, you lose out financially.

That was what shocked me. I asked the surveyor when they did my house and they said it added no value.

Thing is value is subjective. Being near a good school adds value. Being near good transport links adds value. Currently people don't see them as adding value, but if gas and electricity become ration or continue to get more expensive in the future then suddenly they will add value.

I think the issue is the return on investment. Would you be willing to pay an extra £10k on the value of a house for example for solar panels that may not even cover that additional cost before you move on again? In essence it's the same issue as investing in them in the first place. Things like schools and transport links are you are paying a premium for good services. With panels you are essentially paying more up front to pay less each month, you're not really gaining anything extra (unless you happen to be on board with green policies in general) but it's primarily meant to offer financial savings.

Capital versus revenue. It's a concept our tax system is geared towards.

Yay April 1st, got slightly caught by Johnson has resigned on twitter by a few people. Only took my usual fake news checking of "go immediately to BBC website" to go "ah" took a little while longer to work out why people were saying it.

Daily reminder for trans people for how they are subhuman in the public eyes, u-turn but not to protect them. A mere 48 hours after we have our first openly trans MP and everyone said brave he (still going by he/him pronouns) was.

Here is the successor to Andrew Marr holding Tory MPs to account. Sunak really felt the pressure.

Downing Street is exploring yet another delay to post-Brexit border checks on goods entering Britain from the EU to prevent what industry has warned would be a supply chain disaster.

Ministers are considering whether to push back for the fourth time the introduction of full checks on imports from the EU, which were supposed to come into effect on July 1, as part of a drive to tackle trade friction and the crisis in the cost of living, officials briefed on discussions said.

Take back control.....

One of the most shocking stories of the last couple of years that much of the media does it's best to ignore. I even studied Canadian political history at Uni and never heard a word on this.

This article doesn't cover it all, but the stats are:

~150,000 indigenous kids forcibly removed from their homes and put in residential schools by their immigrant overlords to indoctrinate them into British and/or Catholic values.

~2,000 to 6,000 presumed died in these schools and buried in mass graves that are slowly being identified.

If anyone talks to you about the upsides of colonialism this is 'Exhibit A'.

It was pretty big news in Canada for obvious reasons over the past 2 years, we just don't care much about Canada in the UK as it has little impact on our lives.

I mainly know about it for enjoying some Canadian content creators one of whom is First Nations descended and the fact I work with people from Ottawa every day.

I was aware of it, but couldn't say where from.
Last couple of years, the news has been rather dominated by a single item though.
