A Political Thread pt. 2

Sickening propaganda event.
Yes. The man is entirely lucid. Here he is effectively inciting violence against those Russians opposed to the war who aren't among the reported 10,000+ that have already left the country before it becomes irreversibly tyrannical.

Yeh never though he was "crazy" always thought Putin as cold and calculating, which is far more scary. He's the devil in human form.

Bye bye RT. Not that I watched.

Whilst RT is just pure propaganda, I do agree there is more than a fair bit of hypocrisy here. Our printed media and plenty of video media have told outright falsehoods plenty of times. Granted it's not state propaganda but it's definitely private propaganda. You do have to question what goes through the likes of Mr Salmond's mind when they see no issue essentially working as a tool for a foreign government though.

Interesting read, not sure how much truth there is in it but it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility given Putin is clearly extremely paranoid.

Would be a dumbass to have a election now, what with the cost of living and more taxes going up.
So fingers crossed.
I think @The Oggmonster is referring to local elections which have to happen. Its pretty much the test if he's normally screwed like any incumbent government. Or if he's terminal and won't win a General and need to go to the glue factory.

Of course.

I'm the dumbass in this case.

Either way don't see any elections going well for the tories after this budget.

Johnson has a lot to be thankful for with this invasion of Ukraine, it has successfully deflected attention away from his corruption and incompetence in a way the government had been failing to do for years. Now all they need to do is say "there are bigger problems that parties" and kill any discussion of the fact that the Tories are corrupt as ****. Maybe new stories about Russian oligarchs and their links to the Tories will pop up.

JRM describing Partygate now as "fluff."

When you think Boris can't go any lower he pulls out that load of rubbish. But yes, as I predicted he is safe until at least the summer. Even folk who called on him to stand down have lost what little backbone they have.

Assuming he is still rational.

I believe he's probably been fed a load of crap from the bottom up, all aimed at avoiding disappointing the bosses. The lies start small at the bottom, but grow a little every step on the way up. "squad equipment is 90% sir, badly need new tyres though.", which becomes "troop equipment at 95% sir, a few machines need new tyres", "battalion equipment at 99% sir, one or two machines need new tyres", "division at 100% sir, no concerns", "army group ready to take over the world sir"...

Now, the lies are laid bare, but only after he's started the snowball rolling from the top of the mountain.

No way to stop it, no way to make it disappear.

I *think*, if he could withdraw and save face, that decision would have been made. But he can't, and won't, he'll now simply refuse to accept this is the end for him in power and tighten his grip up to complete open dictatorship.

Question (1) is, will there be an equivalent of the "20th July Plot".
Question (2) is, how far is Putin prepared to go to save his regime?
Question (3) is, would the army accept a nuclear launch order? [it'd probably start small with tactical warheads, so I'd fear, yes, they would]

It's much like happened when China under Mao suffered mass starvation. Targets were set from the top and distributed down. There were punishments for missing the targets at each step so everyone was out to save their own skin. The fields were not productive but they lied about how much it was to the local officials, who then lied even more to those above them etc etc. That led to a massive inflated figure of production reaching those at the top who were then happy and increased production targets further. To show their superiority, they then started exporting their "excess" produce internationally. Of course nobody could say they didn't actually have it to export so just took it from the domestic supplies. No attempts were made to fix the problems until eventually it became so big it was impossible to lie about it any more.

Russia's army feels that way.

China under Mao was a disaster. They had to wait til he died to start reforming. Same with Putin, but the question would be who would replace him. That is a question for another day.
