A Political Thread pt. 2

Why wouldn't it be Russians in Putins inner circle?

Also, the republicans are gonna cruise the next election if the Democrats put Harris up

Watch the video. It's taken out of context. She and the Polish president both laugh because it is awkward about which one is to reply first as they both get asked a question. Yet no criticism of the white Polish male is to be heard.

You are right she will be unelectable because:
a) the US doesn't seem politically mature enough yet to elect a woman
b) every breath Kamala Harris takes is wilfully misinterpreted by the US media

Media hatchet jobs are definitely a part of it, but she was a very unpopular VP candidate at the time, and I haven't see her do anything to increase her standings with the left or the centrists since taking office
She could well win as the "well at least they're not Trump" candidate, like Biden did this time around, but unless the Republicans literally put Trump up again (and I don't think they will) then I can't see enough people being motivated enough to actually vote for her

I don't think this is true, considering how close Clinton came - though turnout was much lower in that election (Biden got close to 20m more votes than Clinton)

US intelligence coming up trumps yet again sadly. Putin confirms he is arranging for Syrian militias to be deployed in Ukraine. Horrible, but a sign if weakness that Russian casualties have perhaps been unacceptably high. Putin selling it as Syrian volunteers passionate about the rights and freedoms of the people of Donbas. His spin doctors must be working overtime to paint recruiting Syrian mercs to slay Slavs as noble undertaking.

Zelensky veering close to Comical Ali territory as Kyiv is encircled. Looking at maps it is likely his window for evacuation may close in the next couple of weeks. Russia putting on a concerted push for Kyiv and actively engaging across huge territories now throughout the country now.

Yeah. I don't think Kamala Harris is all that wonderful, but show me a VP who is? She is infinitely superior to Mike Pence (whose own supporters literally chanted to lynch him) but gets infinitely more criticism. This was predictable to me from the nanosecond she was announced due to her combination of gender, skin tone and politics.

Hilary had baggage from before and also lost a lot of female vote in those key swing states.

This is all true. But how many women do you ever see make the last 5 in a primary race? They dont attract funding from the white male billionaires who decide who is on the ballot. They want the country run by people in their image. White, geriatric and entirely at ease with growing wealth inequality and tax avoidance.

And... we almost had nuclear Apocalypse today as one nuclear power fired a missile into the territory of a rival nuclear power. If it had headed into Chinese airspace this could have got interesting. I'm almost looking back fondly on 2021! :p

Oh absolutely, money talks in US politics and getting financial backing is key to surviving the primaries. Having said that it isn't the only thing as we saw with Bloomberg's own failed attempt. We have had a Catholic POTUS (JFK), but not yet a Jewish POTUS., although I am sure someone can correct me on the latter if I have missed one.

Crazy to think it took almost 220 years from George Washington for a Black man to become POTUS, given its history. How long, given the barriers in US politics, will it take a woman, let alone a black woman to assume the highest office?

Same with Labour and female leaders or PMs ;) political immaturity at its finest

At the same time it was less than 50 years after the end of Jim Crow for a black man to assume office. Not bad considering only 13-14% of Americans are black.

I think the bigger issue is the regression since Obama left. Hillary dug her own grave somewhat but for an electorate to think she was a worse candidate than Trump is ludicrous, he mobilised a very secluded, reclusive and racist voter group and has built his popularity on taking advantage of division and inequality to the point where the Democrats really only had the option of putting forward a rich white man rather than a host of potentially better "minority candidates".

Then again the USA is leading the world in having the ONLY orange head of state ever.

Loved tulsi but have started to like her less recently tbh
Yeah me too. Watched a clip of her on Fox news banging on about not supporting the Ukraine and how poor American families are fairing with the gas price rises. She also banged on about the 2nd amendment so she's gone full Republican

I think she's kinda just decided to become the slander that was chucked at her tbh

Yeah everyone knows it, the **** Putin is coming out with makes me think he's gone completely mad
It's straight from the playbook - accuse others of what you're going to do (or it's about to be discovered you have already done).

He's going to escalate - that means using his big guns, though it looks like he's satisfied with random targetting cities previously left alone for now. If that doesn't work though, we can expect a chemical / biological attack
