A Political Thread pt. 2

This is acompelling read actually, although I've only managed half by skimming.

It seems a huge amount of former officials, including Trumps own from term 1 have had access revoked.

I'd like to find the full list, I'll have a look for it later.

Didn't Biden do this to Trump in 2021? I agree Biden should have, I agree Trump needs to, I would also agree the new incoming in a few years should remove Trump, does noone agree?
Aren't ex-presdients, (and advisors, secretaries of state etc) supposed to be seen as elder statesmen, available as sounding boards, and advisors, the only people who really know what it's like in the hot seat, and for advisors, experts in their previous experts?
Certainly Carter, Bush, Clinton, Bush & Obama (just from presidents) filled those roles (not sure Reagan had the capacity when he left office). I'm pretty sure it goes back significantly further than that though. But it's a "norm", an expectation that presidents do their honest best for the country, even if they disagree on what is best.

In which case, they need clearance.

Trump stole confidential documents to feed his ego (and bank account) and no way could have been trusted to keep a clearance level.
He's removing other peoples' clearances because he's a petty child, who doesn't respect anyone who isn't a tyrant.

Removing clearance may become the new norm - I kinda hope not, for the reasons above. But if the massive polarisation of the last decade continues, it probably will.

@TRF_Olyy
Thread is 1000 pages long - do we want to take pity on the server and start afresh?
Maybe separate out N.American politics from European? Or European from RotW?

Straight forward, out and out, extortion

Amazing what you can do when you take your clothes off and "strut your stuff"

So when Biden does it for the first time, it's justified, Trump took documents (Biden would never do that) but when Trump follows suit your outraged?

Let's be honest, does Biden have capacity? Is Hunter trustworthy?

There are probably arguments for and against the names on the list, and I have seen the full list, but Democrats seem to have a great skill for being short sighted. They set a precedent and then surprise Pikachu face when the next government do the same thing lol

I honestly don't care about ex presidents ability to access classified information, I just don't understand the pearl clutching only when Trump does something.

Let's say I agree it's him being petty, and vindictive, I would also keep the same energy when Biden did it though.

Kind of. The rescinding of DEI programs, and pro Bono work to Veterans and Anti Semtism probably don't count as financially beneficial to Trump.

I'd say it's more point scoring against law firms who contributed to things like the Steele Dossier, and went after him originally.

Let's not forget strumpet's also cancelling security clearances for anyone he doesn't like, including anyone who has investigated him, lawyers so they can't sue him or the government to try and prevent his megalomanic policies.

No, trump has no control or say as what what a non government entity can do about dei.

He only has control of government policies.

Just like his vendetta against associated press because they still called the Gulf of Mexico, Mexico and not America.

He seems to be under the impression his rule is for everything and everyone.

In this instant, he withdrew security clearance from some lawyers until they paid up. That's extortion.

Am I?
Thanks for telling me, I really wouldn't have got that from my feelings, or the words I wrote, but I'm sure you know best.

Capacity somewhere between Reagan and the others.
Hunter? Not for me

If you want pearl clutching, you're going need a different post to reply to.
Let's say I agree it's him being petty, and vindictive, I would also keep the same energy when Biden did it though.
Then you'd be showing either remarkable insight, or remarkable ignorance, but I guess you've got to support your team (see, other people can do projection too - though I will note that you're defended Trump far more the last few days than I've defended Biden in the last few decades)
