A great big Munster thread

http://thescore.thejournal.ie/munster-short-term-cover-backs-1699071-Sep2014/
This looks at our options to deal with the centre crisis. To be honest we'll most likely have to nick a centre off one of the other provinces for a loan, as well as blood some academy players. Goggin and Scannell being the highest potential prospects with Scannell having more experience. It also mentions moving Keats or JJ into 12 which is an obvious choice but won't be enough. We have only three centres available Smith, Hurley and Dineen. Dineen doesn't look up to it, Hurley is a makeshift option who blows hot and cold.
Anybody have any idea who'd be a likely option for a loan?

You could probably loan McCloskey with minimal fuss. He's, what, 3rd choice 12 at Ulster at best, but is already capable of stand-out performances at Pro 12 level. Ulster would miss him, but not hugely, while everyone else is a winner.

And with Nuciforatu at the helm I imagine that's a pretty likely situation actually. Just reading the comments there, it's an established rumor. Munster could have done with signing a guy like Eoin Griffin before he fecked off.

Wasn't he all but signed until London Irish stepped in? I imagine keeping guys like him and Farrell (scored a nice try for Grenoble this weekend) in Ireland will be a big part of Nucifora's job.

To be honest, I'd give serious consideration to shipping Luke Marshall down there before McCloskey.

LM appears to be morphing into a boshing inside centre... only without the bosh.

JJ, Keatley, Smith. What is wrong with that 3-quarter?

The pecking order is pretty clear, regardless of what we may think - there's zero point us talking about Skywalker going to Munster.

That said, personally, any coach who'll give up so quickly on the idea of coaxing the step and and distributing back out of Luke Marshall following the turgid season just gone, is a coach I don't want at Ulster. Maybe he'll be one of the guys to lose out in the great centre deluge, it's far from impossible, but McCloskey still has plenty to prove before I'd put him ahead of Marshall.

Shame they don't really have spare locks to loan us in return at the moment.

Nothing, providing they're available for every game, which they won't be.

I don't see the point in bringing in any other centers to Munster. They have the players there, just there seems to be a lack of cohesion in the back-line. Bringing in someone else may not help the situation as they will just have to cope with the coaching structure.

We got ourselves a sugar daddy making â'¬900k a season available from next season to buy NIQ guy ☺️ Sexton deal actually helps us.
Regards centres Earls wasn't going there. Not saying I rate these there but Dineen Murphy Hurley are all options there with Smith and few academy lads can play there. It's our depth that will be hurt. We're looking at Tyler scenario too and it's possible tests next month will mean we opt out there and sign another alternative

Foley said he wanted a 12 to be like a playmaking 12. They have Rory Scannell who can do that so just play him. I don't see too many players thats available to sign on loan except someone from Leinster like Crosbie or Jordan Coughlan etc.

Sacking Penney not exactly looking that clever at the moment.

Certainly from up here, it never looked smart from the moment it was mooted.

Penney was doing good things with possibly Munster's weakest ever squad of the professional era.... and developing them along quite nicely.

I think the only people who saw losing Penny as good was the individuals in the 'inner circle'

Penney left after not getting terms he wanted but agree not many were happy. He wanted to stay and most of players wanted him to stay and coming from a guy who sees these guys daily morale and skillset is gone back hugely. If Penney had got his original choice backs coach I do wonder where we'd be now

Who was Penny after as backs coach? Your comment is quite telling and no wonder Munster seem like they could organise a booze-up in a brewery.

Original choice was his Cantebury backs coach (his name escapes me) but he got a promotion at home. Mannix was 3rd choice and not picked by Penney alone. Axel is alot more intense now and while he is a fine coach I think too many of backroom team are not away from team too long to be at positions they are.

Tyler Blyeendaal will be in UL this evening for a look. I've my first rehab seesion with him tomorrow.
