A great big Munster thread

Is this style of 2 play makers essentially the style which was implemented by Penny? It is a Kiwi style of play.

Mainly he played Downey there for some bizarre reason. Downey is a crash ball man and good at that. The way Munster played, they just bypassed Downey.

Luckily Hanrahan and Keatley are good centres in their own right. Personally I think its a good idea. The advantage that has over using the fullback as Amiga said is that 10s generally are more creative. That's especially so compared to Munsters fullbacks. Toulon's secret weapon has been Matt Giteau playing 12. He gives them an extra dimension.
Regards Downey I'd never really knock him as his efforts defensively were massive but going forward we never used him right as he just wasn't a player suited to gameplan.

But your spot on about the 2 10's but at same time expect to see fullback or winger in too. Zebo is a great 1st receiver at times as is Earls at times. (although you'd obviously want them out further). People seem to think it'll only be the 10/12 each time but it's more the logic of options eachside and creating 3 while trying to take the best 1. Foley was always a smart player and he has same nous as a coach.
But again when JJ and Keatley did it last year it was superb. Against Toulouse last year when Toulouse were starting to play some bit this duo changed the tide again.

Its obviously highly personnel dependent.

We have Jared Payne who has excelled at it at times.

When Felix Jones gets injured in the first game, Munster could go with Keatley at full back, Hanrahan at 10 and Bleyendaal at 12.

Theres no guarantee Felix will be 15 regardless. Conway is flying it on the wings so Zebo or Earls could go 15. Keatley will only ever play 15 but yes personnel is factor. Leinster for example can't play a structured game with Madigan as he is an unstructured 10.
But from what I've seen in sessions Axel and Co have got a clear vision which as I said may or may not come off but certainly worth the try.

We beat L. Irish 17-5. CJ was absolutely class. Bohane was superb until he got serious injury. Sweetnam was excellent and well Holland showed he has tools to be a Pro12 10 at least. A lot of positives and great to see Archer back and doing well in scrums. Hopefully that serious injury is behind him and he can improve again.

I really hope Bohane is good. It would be really nice to produce a really good centre since Barry Murphy.

Well hopefully his injury isn't serious but if he gets going then we will be laughing. He was very good and well has the skills as well as physicality. Made 3 huge tackles tonight.

Paper blew it out of proportion. An email was sent to wrong list but was only on conditioning and stages of preseason compared with last year and it was 3 weeks ago. Like it says there we have revamped out S&C team but that has happened since start of preseason. Simply put paper got sniff of a story and tried to make a major issue out of nothing.

Oh that is good. It was clearly exaggerated then which is good.

How has Andrew Smith bedded into the team environment?

Did well Friday night. Will be a good addition on the dirty nights. And I was surprised how good he was talking with young guys around him. Will be no problem bedding in and he wants to earn a 2nd year at least.

So Blyendaal's out until 2015, surely this will have a negative impact on the whole playmaker at 10 and 12 idea.

Well there's nothing to stop us using a Keats JJ combo, apart from the worrying drop in quality off the bench with Johnny Holland. Still though, that's just ****ing unlucky. I don't think it will be a fun season.

Yeah I kind of meant it in the way that those two can't play every game. I presume it'll be use them for the big games and then revert to one of them at 10 with Smith at 12.

Your right it does effect us slightly but fact is Blyendaal was unlikely to play much between now and Xmas regardless. But it effects depth hugely and means we have to alter gameplan a bit. Expect to see more of Hurley at 12 as a result.
Early signs are he will be back for Jan '15 though.

Bring back Penny.

I heard rumours that the attendance at home matches it getting worse and worse.

Yes but issues are times of games and other events. As in this weekend you had hurling and you had local county fixtures in GAA all at same time as well as sport on TV an local soccer.
Other issues are times for example if memory serves me right our next game at home is vs Scarlets at 7 on a Friday. This basically wipes out anyone but Limerick fans and even then it tough for them too
