Was he milking it? Just been hit in the face by someone else head, first reaction is going to be hands to face and everyone would wince - tbh if his nose had exploded in a shower of blood then it would have probably meant a red card for the offender, cant be denied what happened.

In the old days when reds were rarely seen, it was this type of action that warranted a sending off. Off the ball, no reason for it, charged at a player (on the ground) and on top of that, they collided heads - straight red, all day long. He was very very lucky.

Overall, well done France for the victory it was deserved, best team over the tournament IMO. Scotland played above themselves this game and gave a strong account of themselves, no shame in their performance.

Realistically I don't see us above 3rd/4th place finishers with this type of tournament performance overall, need a clear step up to be challenging 2nd/1st.

As a Frenchman, I'm glad Mauvaka didn't get a red biscuit. It wouldn't have been scandalous if he had. Thanks to the Scottish team for giving us a very good match on the final day of the tournament.

I think the FPRO/bunker was the only one to do their job correctly as they are not there for foul play and he had to use the tackle framework

I can't find anything written specifically except that refs can still give a straight red. My interpretation is the bunker can't upgrade to a straight red, only a 20 minute red within the review they are given.

Ever since the bunker review was introduced it just feels to me like there has been a reluctance on the part of refs to issue straight reds. The idea of letting the game flow is good and I'm sure that most bunker review calls are fair but it does seem like an easy way to pass the buck to the TMO in a sort of hedge your bets type decision. The next ref who opts against a bunker review and correctly gives a straight red will have my respect.

Should have been instant red for the rest of the game on the pitch and given Scotland a chance to win. It was a head butt on the floor unprovoked, it wasn't a ******* reckless tackle or clear out... it was deliberate act to the head... straight red....

What tackle framework? It's wasn't a tackle it was straight forward thuggery.

I think they've all got so caught up in the "framework" they've missed the crucial part where it isn't a tackle.

As much as Ben White's milking of it was poor, how that incident wasn't viewed as a straight red card is beyond me. Mauvaka, off the ball and not in the act of tackling, went in at speed and flew at a player on the ground with his head - and it wasn't an accident. It was the cheapest of cheap shots and it was deliberate foul play. A 3 week ban is a complete farce - admitting guilt and a previously good disciplinary record shouldn't be scope to get a ban reduced when it's a deliberate act. For things like that I think they have to start giving bans of 3-4 months, that's the only way you will get things like that out of the game.

The fact that they now admit that it should have been a red card leaves a sour taste in the mouth. Scotland would have had a very good shot at winning that game, even if it had only been a 20 minute red-card. Mauvaka's actions should have cost his team a Championship if the officials had done their job properly. When an obviously poor decision changes the outcome of a tournament it makes it hard to take.

It's definitely not written explicitly, but as far as I can see all the videos and websites only talk about the ref giving a full red. Nothing about the bunker review. For me Carley and the assistants ****** up, not the bunker that is limited in what it can decide.

There was also an element of poor planning with the appointment of officials. Carley reffing the last match with England in contention for the ***le wasn't ideal. Just appoint SH refs in the last two games which avoids putting pressure on the officials (and mitigates the risk of of any bias or overcompensating allegations).
