Transfers Rumours

I never got to the bottom of whether he's Irish Qualified (I thought he was through his mother) but considering you all hate him, I'd love him at Leinster regardless.

I'd have him on the Lions over Sam P if he's in the conversation.

Don't think he is - seem to remember that his parents have a few Grandparents who are Irish but all of his were born in England

Not sure what the craic is with passports - like Andy would be eligible, if he then got it would it then make Owen eligible?

What does he bring at this stage that we dont have in any of the 4 national sides?

I cant think of anything.

I think he's currently a better international 10 than, at least, Sam P and Marcus Smith and possibly Fin and Finn too, hard to tell when he's been out the game a year.

There could be an argument to be made that those two are better club 10s but it's probably the position with the steepest step up from the club game.

I haven't watched him this year, Racing just aren't worth it, so maybe he's washed but from 2013 - 2023 he was consistently the 2nd or 3rd best 10 in Europe for me. I find it hard to believe that he's dropped to 4th or worse betwern England, Ireland and Scotland.

I think the two Fins are way ahead in terms of options for the lions. Russell goes as starting 10, but as the tour progresses they'll see how good Fin Smith is and he will challenge to start the later tests.
Behind them, Marcus as a back up to those two as hes one of the best broken field runners in the world. Plus with an actual physical 12 around him like AKi, then Smiths game comes alive at 10...as it did with Estehuizen at 12 for quins.

I really wouldnt want to see Owen on the lions tour or in any England squad going forward.

I think Owen has been out of form for too long. He thrived when he was behind a dominant pack like at peak Saracens but I just think he's too much of a risk and it's not fair that other better options miss out. He was bang out of form when Gatland took him to SA four years ago and just couldn't rediscover any form while on tour.

I think he's a great leader and a good character to have around the squad. Maybe Andy should pick him to fill Neil Jenkins old role as kicking coach. That way he's already there if any 10/12s get injured.

Good around the squad, coaching in general and kicking coach, also does team talks. An option for Incase of emergency break glass 10.

Sounds like George Ford to me.

No issue with Ford going even as the third ten.

Was just trying to think of a scenario to shoehorn in Owen in the event that his Dad is hell bent on taking him.

When did Farrell last play well for England? I'd say 2019.

Still amazes me how pretty much the entire team fell off a cliff after that World Cup. The Jones effect.
