[2021 Six Nations] France vs Wales (20/03/2021)

Yeah all teams and all players do it.
Yes and to varying degrees and also punished to varying degrees.

Wales are disliked because they are as cynical if not more cynical than many other teams and players like AWJ go out of their way to be wind up merchants. They also get away with it a lot more than other teams. Nobody really cares about someone who is a knob and is punished for it, it's the knob who never gets punished that people don't like. That's why AWJ in particular is so disliked. He has been caught lying on the wrong side of the ruck and infringing frequently but never gets carded no matter how cynical his actions or how many times it is repeated. I recall there was a game where Wales gave away 6(?) penalties defending their try line in a row without a warning.

So again why Wales are disliked, because they are one of the most cynical sides yet also one of the least punished for it with some of their players going out of their way to be knobs on field with no repercussions. When has Biggar ever caused the team to be marched back 10 for his repeated backchat? He has been full on right up in the face of a ref shouting at him and never been punished for it. That is what many people don't like.

If England had an AWJ equivalent, you guys would worship him...
Not at all - I've always hated players like that, and when Care used to whinge and play act at referees I slammed him for it too

Farrell complains at referees but it's losing his tempter rather than calculated crocodile tears/football playacting

They gave about 6 pens away tonight defending one move. I didn't see AWJ running to the ref and suggest he gave France a penalty try.

Was a big fan of POC too... and Richie McCaw for that matter! its a 'skill'!
Richie McCaw is a good example. I dont understand having a problem with cynical play. If you can get away with it then as far as I'm concerned, it's great play. It's up to the referees to ref the games and the players to push the rules as far as they can. I dont think we can blame the players for doing that. I'm always glad when the players I follow are cynical... I do however had dirty play, strikes off the ball etc... none of the players mentioned did much of that that I'm aware of.

I actually disagree but you are free to opine however you like. My opinion is that we are disliked as we dare to step 'outside our perceived station'. Again, you're free to speculate how you like... but two can play that game.

So disliked by who exactly. The English? Other than Sinkler in 2019 (which is what this is all about) list me the other dozen or so games and incidents where all these horrible things that he's done then? Shouldn't be to hard seeing as he's such a naughty boy.

Christ, this is more entertainment than I thought.
So Wales are disliked because of something out of their control and having refs not penalising them at the level that you think they should be?
It's ok to say who hate the Welsh because you feel superior to them in every way heat somehow they get the upper hand every now and again!

Nah, not buying it. I hated Will Carling growing up but because he was a great player. Then when I found out he got it in with Diana, the jealousy was strong.

I agree what you always about other players that are disliked but it always comes down to - they are good and we wish we had them. We all want to have a McCaw, Farrell, Odriscoll, Hogg etc etc ad nauseum.
You know, it's ok to say you hate him because you wish you had him ;)

If you think AWJ is a better player than AWJ/Kruis/Launchbury then you're beyond medical help :p

I've said it a hundred times before: I understand why he's so important for Wales because he's like a buff for the side, he's not the best player but he raises level of the players around him because he's Wales' Captain™. You could drop Itoje/Gray/Ryan into the Wales side and they'd play better than AWJ, but the Welsh side as a whole would perform worse.

But that's exactly why I don't think he should be Lions captain - the Lions players already have an issue with Gatland, putting AWJ in as captain when he's not even a top 5 lock in the home nations (+ Ireland) is going to frustrate rather than galvanise players.

Edit: I accidentally said Wales not Lions in the last paragraph, lolz

It's all subjective... and I'm actually prepared to admit that 'maybe' I'd see it differently if I were born outside of the Land of my Fathers... not so sure the Welsh-haters would be prepared to admit as much.

So I openly state the reason for disliking the Welsh team and Welsh posters turn around and say "No that's not your reason! Your real reason is you want to lord it over us!"

Take it at face value and don't try to twist it to what you want the reason to be. Plain and simple, I and I assume many others dislike the Welsh team because they have had a fair few egos in the team and have been able to repeatedly get away with extremely cynical play whilst facing relatively little punishment compared to other teams. That is it.

Would I like England to be able to get away with tons of cynical play and barely ever be the side that is carded of conceding penalties? Of course I would and I'd take the dislike that came with it (not that many people need and excuse to dislike England, wheel out the old "arrogance" if no other valid reason is present) but it still remains a dislikable trait.

Not at all - there's a difference between complaining to the ref and whining like a footballer - I think you're deliberately ignoring negatives

A lot of people dislike Farrell and English fans are fully accepting of why
A lot of people dislike Hogg and Scottish fans are fully accepting of why
People HATED McCaw but kiwis laughed it off
AWJ is the only player you're not allowed to question, it seems
I agree with the hating whining like footballers. One of the reasons I was attracted to rugby was the lack of whining but I don't associate this with AWJ. I do with sexton for instance and find it a pain although I reckon he thinks he is genuinely right most of the time, where as a footballer will moan even if they know they are 100% wrong.

Now you're getting it ;)

Why on earth have you brought in Kruis and Launchbury into this conversation. Why and when did they say they were better?
I couldn't give 2 turds if AWJ didn't make the lions. That's not in anyone's control apart from the players and the Lions selectors

You said I wished we had AWJ, I was pointing out that at VERY best he'd be fourth choice with England

Coz, anything positive about AWJ does this:

to most (not all) people outside of Wales.

I would say if he is on the wrong side and not getting punished then he is doing his job very well. And that the people to blame are the referees. In fact all the things you mention are reasons to dislike the referees and not Wales.
