[2020 Six Nations] Ireland vs Scotland (01/02/20)

A much better result for Scotland than I expected, and I think they get a bonus point

Yeah, well.

Unlikely tomorrow will be anything other than a crushing win for England.

Let's see what happens next week.

Not the greatest quality game but fun for Neutral .
Hogg probably cost Scotland a realistic chance school boy miss.
Irelands back row won it for them.
Front row injuries for Ireland.
Kilcoyne look a bad head blow Tad looked crocked as well.
Healy was in and out faster than a virgins knob.

I'll take it. Too much of last year though.

Porter, Kilcoyne, Cooney in for next week please
In gairness Healy and Furlong were ok and the 2 lads coming on. Injuries played part.
Cooney to start and maybe in backrow do we go with same if Doris out

For me, that's a decent win. Regardless of the Scots World Cup, they are actually a more than average (more than that even) team and that was a hard fought win. Loads to work on but ultimately the job was done so... it's a win.

Both teams come out of it without any 'dent' I reckon.

I haven't been paying loads of attention, but I forgot Stander was playing until that turnover.

I thought he was Ireland's best player by some distance. One of the only positives from the game is that he finally seems to be finding some form again.

If Hogg hadn't dropped the ball over the line, that likely would have been a draw, and Scotland would have deserved the draw. Bad start to the tournament. I see England or Wales as champions this year.

Ireland were shite, Scotland even worse.

You're taught in your first week of playing rugby to run onto the ball. Ireland are infuriating in that regard. Joe Schmidt is a really tough act to follow but there was no sign of progression in the way Ireland played. Use of the bench was conservative and box kicking didn't work again.

Healy and Furlong have been grand but Kilcoyne and Porter have been in better form and I'd tend towards change after the last year. Of course with the injuries (and Healy/Furlong playing much more than expected) we might not have much choice in the area. Cooney to start surely. Herring did well and will keep his place. Backrow functioned pretty well and if Doris is out better to go with the same instead of throwing Deegan/JOD at the Welsh.

At the end of the day not much to cheer about but a win is a win.

Are the Ireland boys trying to take over our English mantle of being most pessimistic about our teams.

Good to start with a win even if it was ugly. Real pity to lose Doris early and for three weeks. Weird that Ringrose went off with no word if he was injured, he was one of our best players before going off. Interesting Cooney got more than 90 seconds. Wish Kelleher got a bit longer. Very happy with the dimension Larmour offered. Stander deserved his award.

New policy supposedly. No injury update until after game

As a neutral that game wasn't great.

Neither team were that far away from looking pretty damn good though, teething troubles are normal first hit up so I'd expect both to improve. Of course supporters of each team will be more negative about their respective performances, as I will tomorrow - one of the ties that binds each of the 6 Nations together is the stubborn pessimism of all of their supporters about their own teams. It's one of joys of this forum, an understated pleasure those relentlessly ******* positive Southern Hemisphere-ists will never understand.

The difference between the teams, for me, was their attacking rucks. Ireland cleared every ruck quickly, efficiently and powerfully (as they generally do) and Scotland sometimes took a split second too long to get their men there, so they got turned over a few times and their attacking ball slowed down. There was a point, late in the second half I think, where Hamish Watson got in a great position over the ball, turnover looked likely for a split second then he got creamed by two Irish forwards at absolute full power, job done. Never happened once the other way round that I remember. Ireland at their best probably clear their own rucks better than any other team in the world, an underrated skill in my opinion.

Hogg dropping the ball was ******* golden. Couldn't have happened to a nicer fella. "Everyone hates the English" do they Iain? Everyone loves not dropping the ball over the line you cocky prick. Ha

It's a shame we're out of the era of VHSs with ***les like "Will Carling's Greatest Rugby Bloopers" because that would've been front and centre
