[2019 Six Nations] England Squad

Surely its too late for EJ to consider Watson as a viable player for the RWC?
He'll have had hardly any games under his belt to get up to speed and conditioning.
He could well get broken again in any England training GTGs as well.
It's not like we are short of options at wing and FB
7 months to the world cup

If Watson can be in full training and play a couple of games by the end of the season he should be selected in any extended WC squad. We have 3 warm up games and probably an intense training squad before then. Watson should be in! Hope he recovers...

If he us fit he could go instead of brown

Apparently Callum Braley is Italian now, been called up into their squad
Good for him, he's a good young SH who prob isnt going to get into the england squad. So i wish him all the best

I wonder if the real Italian players get annoyed at the imports.

I remember Luke Narraway (what happened to him!) having a dog when some idiot selected T Waldron for England, very bad times that.

Maybe but they prob get tired of losing too, i think they will be happy to get more players to help them forward. Plus most teams have a few oversees players, i mean mako billy both play on residency even if its from a young age. Hughes just pitched up turned down fiji and decided england was his future and waited.

Genge sitting out some training with an ankle issue. Doesn't sound serious, but we don't need him to go down.

So moon and helpburn for the Wales game. Not terrible choices but we need Genge to get gametime for the worldcup.

For the match day squad
I would drop ford and hughs
I would like to see teo run out with farrel and manu
And shieds to see how that works with the world cup on the horizon
But jones wont do that

He's not dropping Ford as there's no other Flyhalf in the squad. He's not dropping Hughes because I don't recall him ever being dropped unless there's an injury. I could perhaps see Hughes getting dropped if Underhill comes back, because you could run Underhill Curry Billy as 6-7-8 and have Wilson cover the back row. But until then I think we're stuck with Hughes.

T'eo-Manu is something I could see happening, but not this game. I'd worry about how well that would get our excellent back three into play; going wide quickly and effectively is where we're generating the pressure, and that combo sacrifices distribution for carrying.

Shields, to my mind, is surplus to requirements. Curry and Wilson have grabbed their chances with both hands, Underhill has to get back in when fit, and there's another Curry waiting in the wings. Eddie's also shown a fondness for playing Lawes/Itoje at 6 if needed. Flanker looks incredibly well covered given where we were a year ago, and Hughes is the 8 replacement. (Unfortunately)

One experiment I would really like to see (but again, not in this game) is Ford-Manu-Slade. I'd love to see what Ford makes of it without Faz at 12.
Faz isn't a superior kicker any more, and even if Ford is having a mare it gives you Slade and Daly as backups.

I dont want to see any of that tbh especially not vs wales.

Shields and teo are now squad players IMO, both can do a job but neither should be in the first team

For me the main thing we do is keep faz manu slade vs wales, lets get a centre partnership that works, potentially faz manu JJ vs italy. Could have slade nowell on the bench. Faz can play 80 and only use slade at 10 in injury. Vs italy we should be ok. If not then ford nowell.

I definitely would start Farrell manu Slade
I just feel it drops of when Farrell moves to 12 .so i would like to see what happens swapping manu or slade for teo in a big game because tbh against utaly we could start Ford devoto jj and they will look good
Wilson moves to 8 for me who is better than hughes and bring a different dynamic to the back not many pressure games left now
But it aint going to happen

Considering how close the World Cup is we need a mid field that's played a few games together so with that in mind we keep Faz, Manu, Slade until Manu gets injured.

What went well?

  • Defence was pretty good - physically dominant, pretty accurate.
  • Rucks - good with and without the ball.
  • Set piece - Linout and Scrum were both solid.

What Didn't...

  • Kicking - mixed execution and well dealt with by Wales.
  • Attack - we don't actually know... because we didn't really do it.

For all the talk of not changing the gameplan and not using the subs - I don't think we actually played to the same gameplan as we have been, and aside from the halfbacks, subbing people wouldn't have made a great deal of difference.

Aye, kicked way too much and poor chases for the most part.
If you've got Manu on the pitch bloody use him.
Either to carry or as a decoy to make space for others. He's not a centre you want for a kick and chase game.
Running lines were bizarre as well - repeatedly sending daly and Slade into double tackle brick walls.

Didn't play heads up at all

EJ just seems to go one game plan at a time. We kicked way too much. Didn't use our backs at all. Management was all over the place.

Didn't realise what wasn't working. We played away vs Wales, kicking the ball back to them give their fans and players momentum. We just didn't do the phases...

I would rest Farrell, Tuilagi, May and Billy in 2 weeks against Italy
