Overall we are just very light in the forwards currently without 5 of our first choice forwards and even a few 2nd stringers.

Well, you're in a downward spiral at the moment. First 57-24 then 57-14, what's it going to be this week? 57-04??

I was flabbergasted this morning when I saw all my match threads were gone. WTF happened??

Luckily I had time to do them all again today.

Think the Lions showed everyone that our defense out wide is non-existent. Weird how Kolbe went from a defensive ***an vs the Chiefs to dropping tackles like this. Basson has never been known for good defense or positioning. Just everyone really so one has to accept the issue is with the structure. That is probably to be expected with employing Paul Treu as a specialist defense coach while his coaching experience has been with the national 7s side. WPRU's nepotism for you. Just look at the inclusion of a few nephews of managment in that matchday 23 as well. Corruption and politics in SA is driving me up the wall.

Yip, we are probably going to get opened up like a.. I can't think of anything appropriate but if the 'canes don't pile 60 on us (at least) I'd see it as an improvement. Injuries aren't helping to be fair but every team needs to deal with that reality so it isn't or at least shouldn't be an excuse.

Careful, you could just get a barrage of a lot of bad references, especially of the oldest occupation in the world.

But what I can say is that you should be glad that PS Du Toit isn't playing. According to All Out Rugby's site, he's ranked overall number 2 on missed tackles.

We're going to get absolutely trounced, even before we lost to the Lions I was of the opinion we should use this game to rest our players.
The irony is we kind of are. A second string (and far worse) second row, a few other 2nd (or third) choices around the rest of our pack, I fully expect a rogering. Our only hope was to dominate up front and I don't see that happening.

Basically we need to get home to SA, take our bye to reflect, and focus on the rest of our season, winning in SA and hopefully beating the Blues when they visit, and getting our groove back,

Ja but put any tight 5 player on the flanks and expect him to defend in this team the way we are positioning and the way we are allowing ourselves to get beaten on the outside and they'll be made to look like the slow clanking louts they are (relatively speaking). I blame our playing him out of position on top of the defensive system. I suppose the staff felt compelled due to the lack of grunt we have in the backrow with Elstadt and Wiese out but still.

Don't see anywhere where the Stormers might out-play the Canes and possibly beat us... It'll just be a matter of how much we win by I think (my prediction is another 50-odd scoreline).
My main hope from this game is to see a better, more busy performance from Savea on the wing. He made a good start to the season but has once again gone quiet... Needs to get his act together because Naholo is certainly in the process of overtaking him in the pecking order (if he hasn't already).
Other than that I just hope we can keep the momentum going... Even if it was expected after last year, I've been very impressed by the standard of rugby we've played at this year, especially given some of the big-name injuries. Beaudy is coming off 2 of amazing performances (even for him), so whether or not he can keep that standard up I'm not sure, but I'm very excited to find out!

It's just been announced that Dane Coles is out indefinitely due to concussion! Damn!!! Another Charlie Ngatai situation. Unlikely to be fit for the Lions tour. That is the worst injury the All Blacks could have suffered before the Lions tour. Terrible news, I'm completely gutted.

Coles out with Kaino and Read struggling. Things are getting interesting now.

Yeah I wouldn't be overly confident for this one. But I think they're pretty down to earth right now and won't underestimate the Stormers who can throw a good contest from time to time.
A lot of good forwards won't be on the field tomorrow, which is kinda worrying as we all know the Hurricanes deliver nice rugby when their forwards dominate. They can be lame, though, if they're being denied possession for too long.

Read will be fit most definitely, Squire is probably better than Kaino now anyway. But for Coles, we have no one near his quality or seniority in our ranks.

Good game stormers. Thanks for giving the canes a good wake up call. Canes lost focus a few times but really rise under adversity

I'm not a kolisi fan...usually. But I think I'm on his bandwagon tonight. He was immense and showed heart and brutality

Terrible news about Coles, he will be sorely missed. No doubt the darkeness will drag another unknown wunderkid out of the Mitre 10 Cup, but there will be a glimmer of hope in the ranks of the pretenders!

To the game, well it was odd because it sort of looked like the stormers were in it for long periods of the game - but they werent really, you cant argue with 7 tries to 1, they simply had bugger all in attack (the Stormers problem for some years.), the poor kicking by the Canes flattered them up until the game broke open.

Canes looked a bit off their best, but I suspect that was the defensive pressure of the Stormers more than anything else - and thats an aspect of the game you cant fault them on.

Canes never really looked like losing despite the Stormers showing a bit more grit up front and in defense.
We reverted back to the classic style of keeping in tight and taking the points which annoys me, I'd like it if we had the courage to at least try to match the Kiwi sides, even if it means we lose in the short term.

We'll never catch up if we keep reverting back to a style of play that has been proven ineffective in the modern game.

Think the Lions showed everyone that our defense out wide is non-existent.
This! In spades.
What is wrong with your defense in that area? It's as if they have never seen a cross kick before. I can understand getting caught by surprise or something, but it was every single time ffs. So infuriating to watch.

Yes, and it contrasts with the Canes, absolutley refusing under any circumstances to take the points from penalties and just kept going for the try, over and over again. That self belief is just so strong.
