[2017 RBS Six Nations] Round 2: Italy vs. Ireland (11/02/2017)

I meant he should maybe see steadily more game time over next couple of seasons, which he will anyway unless Sexton's health improves dramatically.. we'll see what happens, but I wouldnt be overly worried about either come 2019, so long as Jackson has been given the international experience at the highest level. If he keeps improving, well it's a nice selection headache, though again I do agree, Sexton is in the driving seat

Agree with that, don't think Sexton has 2019 in him I just hope he gets one or two more international series left in him.

For sure.. he's actually one of those guys I worry about having just seen that movie, concussion. I hope for his sake he doesn't play past when his body tells him no

The beauty of Sexton's injury-proneness is Jackson will naturally get game time without needing to plan for it. It's a very good system.

Crazy that according to accenture statistics team of week 6 irish guys made it.
2 props 2 flankers and 2 halfbacks.
This was team based on statistics

Nice to see you posting! So it wasn't a real attempt, more of a "cry for help" thing, huh?

Bit of both. Ha I'm an addict here

On Italian game. Was just told the need for BP here may be vital in seeding issues. Not sure exactly how or how accurate it is as I'm not educated on seeding system in depth but always thought seeding points vs Italy weren't on offer in a way

I thought Hendo was one of the best forwards last week, got stuck into everything, and think he way outperformed Toner, would not be able to understand this call at all.
Bowe not in the 23 is a big bonus for sure on current form, though trimble is the kinda guy I'd start if he had to play, cant see him making much of a bench impact, not in terms of attack anyway.

Why not just have:

6 - SOB
7 - VDF
8 - CJ

CJ not being as good as Heaslip is an issue, he's more of a 6 than an 8 he's just good enough to get away with playing there at clilub level.

The calls for VdF also confuse me, I'm with the cowardly @big ginger 8 in thinking that Conan is a better bench option right now due to the Dutchman's bad form.

Trimble and Henderson not in 23. Joe has spoken to of CJ getting chance at 8 as he is leading most stats there in club rugby. Also states guys deserve to right the wrongs

Ryan brought in to fix the lineout is a disappointingly sensible move.

Gilroy in the 23 is a kick in the dick to the four inform guys playing Newport and Treviso this weekend, I can only understand the decision to have him over Sweetnam due to injury.

Hope McGrath is a case of resting too.

Was more worded to add aggressive edge to pack.

Yeah people will point to Ryan being better in the lineout, and rightly so, but where Henderson completely fails for me is in his workrate. He just doesn't do hitting rucks with frequency and as such he really has no place starting in a Joe Schmidt (20+ phase the norm) team. Ryan and Toner will work like dogs ruck to ruck and thats what we need from the second rows. Leave the fancy to the shorter lads!

Elsewhere, no surprises. Stander, O'Brien, Heaslip are gonna start every game if fit. I imagine only O'Mahony has a shot at displacing them and even thats remote.

Apparently 50/30 mins, 30/50 mins for the looseheads was always the plan. Hope Healy does well. I think he's VERY slowly getting better with games. I haven't given up believing he can get back to the player he was.

On Henderson. My issue is he has no form as a lock and his engine as lock has never been there. He's a superb player but earned it as a 6. Has the potential to be top lock but needs to be there regularly for Ulster to build engine

Why do you always have to throw out insults? Who hurt you?

Doesn't matter now and probably won't make a difference against Italy but yeah I think Conan would be an incredible bench option albeit there's a strong argument for needing someone who can play 7 on the bench. Still the idea of a rampaging Conan against tired legs gives me funny feelings. He's also developed into a pretty excellent lineout forward and would help there.

No major qualms with the team, Gilroy isn't the best option we have at this moment but he still has the potential to do some damage with 20 to go. Pretty happy that we're resting McGrath, he deserves one.

Also the report is that Henderson is injured but then again that's what they said about Ryan last week.

Just on last week Ryan was fit. From the horses mouth himself I have that. And unofficially it's been said Henderson's injury is semi fabricated. Spoke to Billy Holland today. He's going as an extra so Henderson I'm presuming isn't togging but last week Ryan trained fully missed 2 days the week before. And he was 24th man last weekend.
