[2016 RBS Six Nations] Round 4: Ireland vs. Italy (12/03/2016)

If Schmidt didn't trust Cronin, what the hell was he doing there in the first place?

If Denis "So Obviously A Better LH For Connacht Than Bealham It Hurts" Buckley is too small for international rugby, then how on earth is Strauss big enough? How was Domingo big enough? Mas? You realise he's only a kilo lighter than Joe Marler?

If this game is so incredibly high pressure do or die that Schmidt can't continue to let McCloskey learn, how is sticking in a young prop on his secondary side for his first cap a good idea? Particularly when also on the bench there's a guy who can't scrummage at lock? There's a solid three better looseheads in Ireland available this weekend at the very least, why is he taking the risk on Bealham?

Strauss is a hooker... Buckley is a prop. He's about 5"7/8 and not huge by any means. Schmidt has McGrath, Healy and a lot of average guys and having worked with Cronin and Bealham he obviously thinks Bealham is better going forward.

Joe Schmidt is an intelligent guy who definitely has his reasons for picking Bealham, either that or he's trying to appease all the calls for new caps. I hope it's the former.

Just on Buckley, you can win all the ball in the world for all it matters if you can't scrummage to an international standard you cannot play international rugby. He's a superb operator but well below an international ready scrummager.

If Buckley's not international ready at loosehead, I shudder to think what Bealham is.

TAB - Buckley's also listed as 5'10" and 109kg. That's big enough to scrummage at international level as a prop.

There's big and there's able. He's neither. What Bealham is, is apparently versatile. Once again he's really not. No one can really play two sides. Takes a different body shape. Cronin is a wrecking ball on his day. I'd have brought him in.

Sorry Irish fans i will not be watching this game, instead watching Tigers V Wasps.

So you will not be having my insightful commentary.

Don't worry. Every time my dog frantically chases his own tail and barks at patches of sunlight during this match I'll think of your insight on rugby xxx
