2016 Olympic Games, Rio

Strange end to the 3km steeplechase. Bahrain runner could have cruised a new world record but slowed down short of the line and celebrated early and missed out on the wr by less than a second.
Won with like 50+m to spare but just didn't realise how close she was to a new wr

Gold in horse dancing....it still counts towards the tally!

Some may say she was saving it for the Diamond League where there are big bonuses on offer for a WR.

Outstanding by Sophie Hitchon, but the Pole was a class apart.

Yeah I seam to remember the Russian pole vaultist Yelena Isinbayeva broke the world record several times going a little higher at each event as she knew she could do it in training but the money involved meant she didn't just smash it at first try.

I get incentivising feats like that but it's shame what it actually does.

Mind you in another weird one I think James Cracknell or Matthew Pincent were telling story in rowing where they were on world record pace at world championship before an Olympics games. They yelled to go for it to which Redgrave said no. after the race they asked him why and Redgrave said do you want them to think they only have 1.5 seconds to make up or 5 next year?

Michael Johnson's reaction to losing his world record was so classy. He might be my favourite pundit in any sport.

+1, he's a class act and great pundit.

Edit: talking of pundits, I see that John Inverdale has caused controversy by describing Andy Murray as the first person to win two Olympic tennis golds. Murray himself pointed out that the Williams sisters both had four. Certain people seem to be ignoring the fact that he could have meant two SINGLES medals and that there are a long list of people, both male and female who have won multiple gold medals to wage war on Inverdale for being a sexist once again.

Saying that, I find it hard to see what Inverdale brings to the party in anything other than rugby.

If he did not get a penalty.......Not gentlemanly dear boy!!

Ps - that was sarcasm......

I think it wouldn't have been controversial or even noted had Murray not immediately replied with that. Of course once Murray did it becomes a question of why Inverdale did not use clear language. He was also has previous plus there was minor controversy when people weren't clarifying mens singles ***le when he won Wimbledon the first time not mentioning Virginia Wade.

Also saw similar aguements about Tim Peake
and forgetting Helen Sharman....I got head ripped open for that explaining the importance of having a professional astronaut.

He also had a bit on going in screen feud with Redgrave last week.

So yeah he missspoke nothing in it but we do have a habit of not clarifying between mens and womens events. Especially by referring to mens as the event....makes sense sometimes other it is rude.
