[2015 RWC] Semi Final 1: South Africa vs. New Zealand (24/10/2015)

Why on earth would he be cited for that? What Law has he transgressed?

The ball was out so no offside, or coming in the side, and he ran a direct line to the ball carrier, then followed him.
Watch again as McCaw passes Louw he quite clearly knocks him back. How and why I'm not 100% sure, have to admit without anyone telling me what to look for it took a few watches.

I have had a look at the video of the first try and the shove by Habana.

1. Kaino's try.
The last pass looks thrown back from McCaw. Kaino is well behind McCaw (a metre at least) and McCaw is facing him whe the pass was thrown. We also hear Garces yell "Backwards!" while Kaino is heading to the line. There is a possibilty that DuPreez touched the ball in flight (knocking it back towards his goal-line) when he tried to block the pass, and that could be both the reason why the ball travelled forwards aas Kaino caught it, and why Garces said "backwards". Either way, the pass was fine and the try was good.

2. Habana's shove on Milner-Skudder
Habana does stumble, but IMO, it is as a result of him trying to shove NMS and not the other way around. Haban reaches out with both hands before he stumbles, showing intent. Its foul play, and the result is an injury for the opponent seriois enough that he neede to be replace. IMO, that is a potentia YC offence; not nailed on, but it would not be overly harsh either given the outcome.

Rugby world cups are won due to defense and not attack...

Now with that in mind... I can say that Hansen is a master tactician and he read SA like last weeks newspaper...

SA is a defensive team in fact that is a understatement as they infact park the bus... A term chelsea fans will be well aware off.

That is the problem i have with SA as they kill the game with parking the bus... They themselves cannot over anything to they prevent rugby from happening...

The best thing RSA can do is to get rid of HM. But they will see this as a "we came within 2 points of the AB" and they wont see the anti sporting tactics that was on display.

Hanson read them like a book, he knew about the intercepts and the tight defense so they gave the kicks in behind SA to catch them out and to keep them guessing...

The AB Actually beat SA at their own game... The AB had a better defense than SA, as we didn't let any tries in plus thy still manage to keep their identity by looking dangerous on attack.

The boks has a topical gameplan of park the bus... Moer everything into defense and apply pressure, then we counter when they (nz) make mistakes... Which didnt really happen, plan B was the intercepts which didn't happen bar the one by jp as it was adv to nz.

SA thought they could grind out a win by parking the bus which might have won them the battle but going forward they are loosing the war...

The game is evolving into a faster more expansive pattern an defensive teams are falling behind. The same is happening in other sports like footy (look at chelsea now in the epl, Mourinho's anti sporting park the bus tactics has backfired. Other teams haw moved forward and chelsea is staying behind)

Back to the game... Hanson knew the Boks cant play 90min, so he rang in the subs much earlier to try and keep the tempo up and tire out the boks even more i saw stampkar eben pulling up stif there near the end... A 20 odd yer old forward pulling stiff? Wtf is stampkar heineke doing to this team and boys? Is that the springbok way? Park the bus and stampkar the mauls in an attempt to win penalties?

In the end rugby and tries won this match and I'm glad the AB's are in the final rather than park the bus SA who's luck ran out...

I just hope banana doesn't get a try in the playoffs cuz he doesn't deserve to pass lomu...

I think when SA selects Du preez at half back you pretty much know they are going to play like this in a crunch match. The difference between SA and Wales though is Barnes wasnt helping SA in this one because his breakdown control in the SA vs Wales match clearly favoured Wales.

Blimey, a Kiwi finds a way to critize Barnes and he was not even on the pitch....shock horror!!

For the good of the game of Rugby, I hope a final NZ vs Australia...next RWC is for Argentina.

So what would he be cited for, striking?

I can't see it. He does not even appear to be looking, he's watchin the ball carrier.

Well if the point of contact is McCaws elbow to Louws head well your more likely to know which law that comes under.

Not that I'm clear that's what happened but I certainly can see why some perceive that.

If that incident comes to anything at all all NZ supporters will know its just the ROTW being a bunch of sissy sore losers. How could it be anything else??

Lol intended?

Doubt it mate. Accidental for sure. Mccaw went into getting a good hit on DeAllende. DeAllende went off in the other direction so Mccaw went around. Luow stood up from the ruck at the same time Mccaw came near and accidentally got struck.

Having watched McCaw's "clash" with Louw, I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, that it was accidental. I hope he doesn't get cited and miss the final for that.

I see it differently, if you hit someone with that force you have to have a tense forearm. Flouw didn't stand up, he remained on one knee the whole time after claiming the ball until he was hit. I couldn't say for sure it was intentional obviously but my gut feeling is that it was.

I disagree. Habana steps on Milner-Skudder's left ankle with his right foot and this causes Habana to stumble and that's when his hands go up to NMS's back/shoulders. This looks completely accidental to my eyes so a penalty was the appropriate punishment.

Regarding the McCaw-Louw incident (match clock at 21:19 in first half). Watching it at normal speed it looks completely innocuous and clearly it didn't hurt or bother Louw and none of the Boks protested in any way. If there is a citing then I doubt very much it will come from the SA camp and I sure hope there are other camera angles because I suspect from the other side it will look like even less of an issue.

Yes agree Luow didn't stand up. He was attempting to get back on his feet. He moved in the way into McCaw rather than McCaw deviating his run towards him. It's obvious McCaws target was DeAllende who was playing scrum half from turn over ball.

Plus when was the last time McCaw got cited?

If he did connect with the elbow and it was intentional, he should get a ban. If Sean O'Brien gets a ban for a smack to the stomach, McCaw should definitely get a ban for an elbow to the head.

Although there's only 1 camera angle, I'd probably give him the benefit of the doubt. Just have to see if another angle can be produced.
