[2015 RWC] Quarter Final 3: Ireland vs. Argentina (18/10/2015)

Sexton out is not that big a deal IMO. Mads and Paddy will be fine and it will give Sexton time to recover.

Would Jackson be better starting now? Either way I'm sure whoever plays their part won't let us down.

Not a chance, Madigan's a better player and, more importantly, goal kicker. I'm still confident of a win, Madigan is a different beast under Schmidt, not as certain as I was though.

It doesn't matter how much time Sexton has to recover if we're knocked out. Madigan was very good last week but he's not exactly Mr Consistent and Argentina are a lot better than France. There's also the fact that we're know missing 5 starters and they were 5 of the more key players. We still have a chance of course but missing Sexton is definitely a big deal.

I wouldn't say either is clearly a better 10. But agree Madigan the more assured goal kicking. But he will have to be perfect on tactical kicking which was average to poor last week. His only fault I'd say. I'm still confident though as I'm sure they've had him at 10 all week so it's not that he is just been thrown in.

In a way I'm glad about this. Obviously Sexton is our best 10 but a World Cup QF is no place for someone who is clearly struggling. At least the uncertainty isn't there anymore.

In relation to the Madigan/Jackson debate. As an Ulster fan I would have Jackson in my team ahead of Madigan however Madigan's performance last week has earned him the starting spot and I have no complaints.

If we win would this be the greatest achievement ever by an Irish team.
Anyway it's Munster v Cardiff time.

I'm suspecting the Irish may have been feeding some deliberate misinformation about Sexton this week.

Madigan was excellent against France, but I wouldn't be putting my house on him doing it 2 weeks running.

Can't help but feel we might win this game by 10+.

Not sure why but feel we should get out of this underdog mindset and smash Argentina backwards.

Ireland have been the best team in the NH for two years and the two losses have been away and by a small amount of points (warmups aside).

Cardiff last week was so special and we need to adopt the mindset that it's actually Argentina coming into a hostile environment. Get behind the team and give them confidence.

we have a team of 6 nations, grand slam, Heineken cup and pro 12 winners - do you think they will give up.

Henry is a real 7
Henderson is a animal
Madigan has undoubted talent

believe!!!

COME ON IRELAND!

Thanks for the motivation.

Throws some more fuel on the secret-concussion-conspiracy fire

Maybe, But the medical team are saying its an adductor flare up at training. Why lie? Why put the player in danger? Surely medical professionals at this level have a code of ethics.

Does anyone think the atmosphere will be as good as last week?

I felt that really made a difference.

Got this horrible feeling that because of the 1pm kickoff it's going to be quiet (and nerves)

think the the team need to know we still back them

Yea he's playing. Doing well but we are down 10-0 in an awful game.

Everything i've read outside Argentina media (to eliminate bias) pretty much gives Ireland the edge.
The Irish (online) newspapers in particular has been quite optimistic about your chances.
Every Irish i've talked to is quite optimistic.
Every betting house in the planet gives Ireland much better odds (to win).

Then you come and talk about underdog mentality. I really have no idea what you're talking about. Either everyone everywhere is lying or i simply can't reconcile pretty tangible evidence (the betting odds being the most clear example) with what you state.

This interview from an Irish radio show to Contepomi is another crystal clear example. They haven't played the match yet and they ask the Argentine former player about how does he see Ireland going all the way.
Play the ****ing game, then worry about the rest of the tournament.

I tell you, sometimes the you Irish are your own worst enemy.
Best of luck tomorrow.

As you've shown already you've little knowledge. Have medical teams lied before? Of course.
Why lie? If he's reported to have any issue (even if it only needs days recovery) he will have to sit out months under new laws. Same goes for George North.
Medical professionals have ethics yes but they're also paid by given employers. Toulouse incident showed clearly that area.

Jeez that will need some cover up! Imagine Sexton himself, Schmidt and his management team, probably the whole squad and probably also the Leinster medical team never mind their wider employees!!

If anything were to go wrong, which hope it fervently does not, Sexton. Or his family will have some case and some defendants to go at!! Also, one person opens their gob, inquiry and, in this climate, makes bloodgate into a minor matter!!!
