[2015 RWC] Pool B: South Africa vs. Scotland (03/10/2015)

I love the light-hearted joke scores the Scots are putting forward in the face of their getting raped. Bravehearts indeed!

HT
Scotland 14 - 17 SA

FT
Scotland 17 - 42 SA

Here's my Prediction:

HT
Scotland 6 - 17 South Africa

FT
Scotland 12 - 43 South Africa

I expect De Allende to make a mess of the Scottish centres, and our forwards to maul at least 1 try.

Good to see more of that famous South African humility on display.

Nice to see you appreciate the jokes. Nicer to see you continue with them.

I'm kind of in favour of Bismarck starting. I believe the Scots will try to play fast and wide from the breakdown and since we don't have Brussow I think it now falls to Bismarck to be the nuisance factor and slow the feed.

i'm all for form players... id rather have an in form Strauss there then an out of form Bismark for fetching abilities

maybe the thinking is to have strauss as an impact player come late 2nd half... he like running with the ball

Scotland turned it on in the second half in their last match. So I'm guessing if it's close at HT, it'll be close at FT.

My 'prediction' was less serious and more a light-hearted response to the score predictions preceding mine (same sorts of numbers - maybe even less generous- only reversed). I always regret my clumsy attempts at humor.

This is going to be a difficult match. I really hope we can win it at the end with 10 points or more.

In the old days I would not have been scared of this matchup , but I feel uneasy this world cup

That's the thing - it's not an outrageous prediction. Could happen, could happen.

Should be a good match.

That's a ways away from the best team we could put out (injuries playing some part). I think 6 or 7 of those would not be in our strongest lineup. Cotter with one eye on the Samoa game? Not sure I agree, if we take a beating it won't be good for our confidence.

History would suggest my prediction is even less outrageous though.

Average score (rounded to the nearest integer):
SA 26 - 11 Scotland

Never been a match at a neutral venue and lets not pretend this is a neutral venue so in Scotland:
SA 24 - 6 Scotland

Last match (Port Elizabeth 2014):
SA 55 - 6 Scotland

In Scotland (all Murrayfield), last 3 matches:
SA 28 - 0 Scotland (2013)
SA 21 - 10 Scotland (2012)
Scotland 21 - 17 SA (2010)

Not sure I agree entirely. At 15, 14, 12, 9, 8, 5, 4, and 3, we're looking at just about the best we have. That leaves:

1. Reid. No slouch at loosehead, also thinks he's a winger and has a few scalps to prove it.
2. Brown. Look no further than two reasons. You don't need a long memory to picture the embarrassment of a ball sitting in the middle of a scrum waiting for a boot or a nudge. Also, Ford needs a rest.
6. The beard has it all.
7. Cowan leads by example. Nobody puts their body on the line more, and he has some natural talent too.
10. Just look at Duncy's face last weekend as he punched the ball into the crowd. He will never let us down.
11. I might have been tempted to bench Visser for Lamont, but he's been on form of late and might just catch a few defenders napping.
13. Big RV has the dog to put the frighteners on defenders.

I'm seeing a steady progression in this side. In fact, probably more so over the last two weeks than I've seen for a while. Cotter knows how to play poker. Show a bit of faith.

Also, whilst Weir may not be as dynamic a 10 as Russell he has an excellent kicking game. I imagine that may yet have a big part to play in this game.

The excitement is growing!

I picked the Boks by 15, but it can go either away.

I think we'll see a great game on Saturday. Arrrghhh 2 more days, just 2 more days..
