[2015 RWC] Pool B: South Africa vs. Scotland (03/10/2015)

Really looking forward to this game, I think it's going to be a cracker!
To any scots.. Is Finn Russell injured? Because that would be rough on Scotland..

Death or glory time. This is the team we've all been calling for, if we can't perform now there is no hope for us.

GO BOKKE!

I havn't been happy with a Bok line-up in a year and a half but this one does the trick.Fourie du Preez is absolutely the right choice for captain; the only experienced player sure of his billing of 1st choice (at least in this squad where the other options are Pienaar and Paige). This also sends the signal that we'll be starting FdP and keeping him on. Key, key player. Matfield isn't our best lock and has been whiny and assuming in his leadership. Burger is only there because Alerts and Vermeulen have been absent. Louw isn't in top form. Bismarck just isn't a leader and between him and Strauss they are touch and go for starting. Strauss is probably in better form right now but both at their best I'll take Bismarck every time and he does tend to respond well to a time-out does Bismarck. My only change would've been Malherbe starting ahead of Jannie. Of course I'd have loved to have Marcel Coetzee, Faf de Klerk (ahead of Pienaar) and our best props (Kitshoff and Koch) in the mix but that ship has sailed and for what we have in the squad this is our best selection. Can't remember when last I could've said that!!! All of a sudden I am hugely excited again. I hate that I love this game so much.

Went off with an ankle twist against against our Colonial Cuzs . Weir his Glasgow club mate came on a scored a try . Could play but I think not . Methinks the Bokies have dusted the Japan fiasco under the carpet prematurely !

I am very excited for this match. This is one of the best teams we could of picked. Only changes I would really like to make is Malherbe and Nyakane to be in the starting 15.

If we don't win Scotland convincingly with this team then we are not going to make it very far in this world cup.

i don't think we need to beat Scotland convincingly. We need a win yes but I expect most of SA is underestimating the Scots (not unlike Japan) and we're likely to start of slowly woud be my prediction.

Based off my calculations, the final score will be 52 Scotland, 3 South Africa.

He may be ruled out of whole world cup tomorrow. Implies he won't be fit for this game!

I am not underestimating them at all. To be honest I won't be surprised if the score difference is only 3 points, but I would like to see our team at least controlling most of the match. That is what I would of expected from the All Blacks and Australia so I don't want anything less from us :)

The Boks looked magnificent against Samoa, back to their imperious best.
However, anyone would write Scotland off at their peril.
They are very organised, have a mobile BIG pack and they kick their goals.
I'm backing the Boks to win it but it may prove to be quite a close contest.

id just swop Bismark for Strauss... who else is there to replace beast and JDP? eish

I'm kind of in favour of Bismarck starting. I believe the Scots will try to play fast and wide from the breakdown and since we don't have Brussow I think it now falls to Bismarck to be the nuisance factor and slow the feed.

Barring a couple of players here and there (which are arguable really) that has to be South Africa's best side. Well, in terms of working with what they have anyway. I think they'll do themselves a great service with that selection.

Yeah, I also think that Bismarck should start. Especially after missing last week's game. How often has it happened that we leave out Bismarck for a game, and then he comes back and plays like the warrior possessed.

I love that team, and I have a feeling that this is the team we will field in the knockouts too. And based on that fitness training the Bokke did before the tournament, they will get better as the tournament progresses. I hope we smash the Scots!

An average Boks side would normally put 30+ points on Scotland. They lack confidence against the top teams and play a horrible conservative type of rugby, even more so when they're up against it. Playing 10 men rugby when you're getting thrashed and continually kicking possession away is an odd game plan. I really hope that they take it to the Boks, play positive rugby and they can come away with the win. The Boks are ripe for the picking and Scotland won't have a better chance of turning them over.

have to agree with you ,my calculation came to the same score

I can't agree. I don't think we'll score more than 48. The Russell in jury, while it's worrying, isn't the disaster the pundits think it is, in my opinion. Anyone who saw Duncy Weir's face when he scored on Saturday can be in any doubt how much he wants to have a go. He's not quite as mercurial as Russell, but he's also not as far behind as too many people imagine. He has experience, determination and loves to make breaks. I'd be very surprised if he doesn't get in behind the defence a couple of times and cause some havoc. If anything happens to him, Peter horne can play 10 and cause problems himself. No, I'm pretty upbeat about the game. 48-10 Scotland.

I love the light-hearted joke scores the Scots are putting forward in the face of their getting raped. Bravehearts indeed!
