[2015 RWC] Pool A: England vs. Australia (03/10/2015)

To be fair to the poms, I haven't seen much arrogance on their part from either the media or the posters here... if anything the commentary regarding their team has been overly focused on selection mistakes by Lancaster and dismay at the team's direction.

Heck, Tallshort, far from displaying anything remotely arrogant, said he'll be avoiding this game altogether so as to save himself from disappointment (which is funnily enough how I feel about it as an Aussie).

Cricket is the biggest sport in the world going by fans. The Indian subcontinent can't get enough of it. Who plays Handball, Jim his 'mate' Theo and Ralf down the road? Maybe a stray dog on the touchline.

why exaggerate ,its not near the biggest sport in the world ,its on a par with shinty ,exept shintys a better game.

Last I checked, England didn't make it out of the group stages at the CWC, lost to Bangledesh, so that isn't really a good example. The Ashes is a test series against one Nation, and congrats you won it 3-2 at home, I was pleased for that win TBH, not a fan of the Aus cricket team.

Your best result at the Cricket World Cup is actually only making it to the quarter finals once or twice? Terrible return.

As far as footballing goes, Wales is actually ahead of you in the rankings now and in Rugby they're ahead of you, so you're not even the best on your Island at your main sports anymore.

Andy Murray is Scottish.

At least you have Lewis Hamilton.

Not trolling or anything, just trying to put things in perspective for some of you. You have delusion of grandeur, you really do. Confidence is one thing, being delusional and arrogant is another. Outsiders perspective looking in. Stay classy Tallshort.

any examples or links you can back this up with?

Read this thread. I was replying to posters comments. Go through the pages yourself, or you really want me to link them all to you?

Anyway, back on topic, I see that Fiji bettered their performances against Australia and England again to limit Wales to 2 tries. So no BP win for Wales. What are the implications of that for the rest of our group?

So no you only have your opinon which is one eyed, very bigotted and boringly sterotypical.

Wales 13
Australia 9
England 6
Fiji 0
Uruguay 0

So many scenarios.

The one I'm picking;

England: 15
Australia: 14
Wales: 14

Bonus points matter.

So to be clear, you're attacking the English for arrogance, but supporting their confidence for a solid win over Australia?

Yes, because any critical commentary of English posters who are being blatantly arrogant and delusional is bigoted and stereotypical. Yet you can on to call everyone petty names..
@sanzar The post is now out off context. It was in reply to another posters thoughts on Englands sporting status in the World. As I said, there's confidence, then there's delusion and arrogance. So I'm not attacking their confidence, just the arrogant nasty delusional side I've seen in here.

Sanzar, it all comes down to tbe Wallabies, england game. If we win, that's it for england. The winner of the Wales v Wallabies game will top the group and have an easier route through the knockout stages.

If england beat aus, and aus lose to Wales, Wales will top the group, england second, Wallabies are out.

In both these scenarios, bonus points will make no difference in any combination.

But if england beat Wallabies and Wallabies beat Wales, bonus points will mean everything. Assuming no bonus points are got by any side, that would be england 15, aus 13, Wales 13.
England and aus go through because aus are ranked higher due to beating Wales. England will get the full 5 points from the uruguay game. Aus could get a maximum of three bonus points, Wales 2 and England 1 in this scenario. So this is the scenario of death in the pool of death as any two teams can make it and any one team can get eliminated..all down to bonus points.

No wonder cheika just wants to win each game, makes everything so much simpler!

Good points RJAH777.

**** this game has me nervous...

I think Australia will lose today, not by much, but lose. 25 - 22 or something. Bonus point to Australia, they go to 10, England go to 10.

Wales vs Australia, now I think Australia will win this comfortably 7+ with perhaps a bonus point try if they play well enough, but I will go with the conservative 4 points. 24 - 15, even if Wales manage to keep it tight at get a bonus point, that leaves them with 14 points and Australia with 14 with better PD and head to head record.

England will thrash Uruguay, moving them to 15 points.

Even if Australia get the BP win vs Wales, it won't be enough, since England won the h2h.

Eng top with 15
Aus 2nd with 14/15
Wales 3rd with 13/14

It's the biggest game of the group, it determines everything.

Well that's twice you've said it without any examples or evidence. Maybe next time you should say it in ALL CAPS with lots of exclamation marks - that should convince everyone.

Evidence? This isn't a court room, we all know in our heads that there's plenty of examples and some people are just denying it to play diplomat. The evidence is basically 80% of threads on this forum.

There a strong team but lets face it They would rather beat England than Wales 9 times out of 10. So they play better against us.

They did lose to a drop goal in the final against us, not that welsh fans know what a final is (In all sports) ;)

Not being arrogant but everyone strives to beat us because we are better than most people at most things.

;)

Here's a good example.

So basically on this forum we have to read how good England are at everything and when you disagree, provide examples and point out their sports isn't at the top at the moment and say "Wait, no you're not, that's arrogant and delusional", you're called a "stereotypical bigotted pratt" - quoting Tallshort and the diplomats on this boards will jump to their defence because it's an English dominated board?

Lol.

I like the Cheika response. "Talk is cheap. We'll do our "talking" on the field"

Paraphrased. England will face a very different Australia to the one they beat in 2014. I think Australia will be able to absorb any aggression and dish it back in the tight areas and breakdown. England backline are very good and it well need a very strong defensive performance from tbe Wallabies to limit their scores. I think the result will come down to a defining moment of brilliance by one player.

That will be an aussie then, all the brilliance in the England teams been coached out of them.

Mike Brown, Johnny may? I hope it's the Wallabies but either of those two could be the one.
