[2015 RWC] Pool A: Australia vs. Wales (10/10/2015)

Well done Aussies! Brilliant game to prove to the SH that rugby is a great game without tries!!!

Hmm, we must have watched different games. That was extremely bland to watch. Welsh successfully snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Same game but different attitudes to the game! I know which I prefer but then I like test cricket not 20:20!!!

Liam Williams gone now, Gordon D'Arcy's opinion on Welsh injuries

"Everyone is talking about the Welsh boys and how unlucky they are with joint injuries. Now, this is just my opinion having played the game for my entire adolescent and adult life, it is not backed up by science; but I believe your body can only take so much punishment and for a certain amount of time before breaking down. The Welsh, in preparation for this World Cup, and Warren Gatland has said it, pushed their players to breaking point. Well, now they are breaking. Losing 16 per cent of their starting XV can’t be a coincidence. If it is then they are truly cursed."

Totally agree.

We used to call it overtraining. It might not be modern sport science but it's hard to argue with him. Especially after looking at the results

I thought it was incredibly exciting. Australia gave the best defensive performance i've ever seen. But you're right that the Welsh snatched defeat there.

Warburton just showed autistic levels of terrible captaincy in not going for the points repeatedly. And why the hell did they keep going crash ball???? lol laughable. If Ireland did that I would be absolutely fuming.

Great game. Welsh attack lacked guile, relied too much on bosh. I feel Hook could've unlocked that Australian defense.

Australia outstanding defense, goes without saying really for anyone who watched.

There have now been 4 games in Rugby World Cup history where the game was decided by just penalties:

Australia - Samoa: 9-3 (1991 Group stage)
South Africa - England: 15-6 (2007 RWC final)
Australia - Ireland: 6-15 (2011 Group stage)
Australia - Wales: 15-6 (2015 Group stage)

Australia being involved in 3 of them.

So I'm going to say it now that referee was an absolute disgrace, after 2 yellow cards and god knows how many penalties on the 5 meter line should have been a penalty try, there is no interpretation the rules are simple. It's like watching Alan Rowland's in 2011 all over again. I am by no means impressed with the stupidity of Wales to constantly rely on forward play when we have backs good enough to rip a team apart when they are 13 men down!!!! We have an absolute mountain to climb with the likes of South Africa next and if these problems of tactics and stupidity are not fixed we deserve to be out of the world cup.

That's an interesting stat :) Wouldn't have guessed that one he heh.
Well done australia. Amazing in between pocock and the two held tries. It could well have been a very different outcome...

NO WAY you can blame the ref for that bud. You got 2 yellow cards, one of them very soft, AND STILL you couldn't score a try. Should have gone for the points. Pure idiocy.

You have Warburton to blame for not winning that one I think. I'm 100% sure Wales would have won in you took the points.

Wales fan. Bust must say regardless of any tactical failures by Wales when Australia were down to 13 men, must congratulate Australia for their defence in that period. Over the 80 minutes I think that the Australia victory was deserved.

Wales played brainless rugby and don't have any flair to unlock a team. Reminds me of England, thanks for beating us wales because without you we would probably have to suffer Lancaster for another decade.

Agreed. Wales just Robshaw'd that. Then cubed the outcome and tried to divide by zero. Or got greedy. Taking the first kick at a two man advantage would have been sensible because the next attack could have been hugely coordinated and from a points advantage- always good for morale. Biggar is exceptional at contestable restart kicks, which would have propelled things from the off so why this route wasn't chosen ( three times?) is mind boggling.

Robshaw'd.

HA! If that was AB's, SA, Ireland, England and France or any other team they would all be saying it, yes Wales should have taken the points and then attacked as Oz were down to 13 men and that is pure idiocy but the rules are there. If a team even after 2 yellow cards and quite a few penalties is still infringing on the 5 meter line its a penalty try end of.

The players who let us down most were, Anscombe and Warburton. Anscombe kept coming out of position to play 10 and we are damn lucky Oz never took advantage of that. As for Warburton his decision making was appalling and to not use our backs when a team is down to 13 men is just disgusting. I thought Wales were better than this and this proves we are not ready to win a world cup if this continues.

Hook should have gone to 13 or 12 and North on the wing instead of Cuthbert.

Jenkins should have been on the bench instead of Francis.

It really takes some arrogance to make this match about England. Will admit that the difference between the 2 teams today was that when Australia were down to 13 men, they defended better than we attacked. Not at the match, so difficult to say whether this was down to Wales not attacking well. Would say that I think Wales were right to go for the try rather than a penalty, as you would expect them to have been able to score the try. Failure to score may have been poor attack, but must accept excellent Australia defence was a factor.

Get over it, you didn't take your chances. Not one point were you heading over the try line so the ref made the correct decisions and favoured you at times.

The infringement has to prevent a probable try from being scored. I never saw that situation arise.
