Canes lost 2 on the road, had to travel back (that is apparently the tough one - west to east) and now faces the Brumbies.
Could get ugly..

Hurricanes: James Marshall, Cory Jane, Conrad Smith, Hadleigh Parkes, Julian Savea, Beauden Barrett, TJ Perenara, Blade Thomson, Jack Lam, Adam Hill, Mark Reddish, Jeremy Thrush, John Schwalger, Dane Coles, Ben Franks. Reserves: Motu Matu'u, Chris Eves, Jeffery Toomaga-Allen, James Broadhurst, Ardie Savea, Chris Smylie, Alapati Leiua, Marty Banks.

Adam Hill has to be the worst starting loosie in the comp right? I don't even know how he got in the wider squad let alone starting line up.

I understand giving someone like Banks a rest, but yes, Savea sold surely be starting ahead of Hill...

Adam Hill wasn't even really good enough for NPC, I have no clue as to why he is being picked over Ardie Savea...If someone told me at the beginning of the season we'd put out a starting lineup with Thomson and Hill in it - I think I'd have abandoned hope of a good season a lot earlier.

As a guy who has given Hammett the benefit of the doubt for the last three seasons, I'm finding it harder and harder to understand his decisions.

The Canes continued non-selection of Ardie Savea is starting to become a joke. Many were calling for him to be in the AB's side at the end of last season - I'm certainly not one of those people (as I don't think he is ready yet), but he is more than good enough to start at Super Rugby level. The fact Adam Hill is being picked over him defies belief. As others have mentioned Hill is barely NPC quality. Part of the reasoning for Hills selection seems to be that he is better suited to 6, but I'm not sure why that should be case. He has played basically all his rugby as a specialist openside, apart from a single game at 6 for Otago a couple of years ago (when we were playing dual opensides......). In any case Jack Lam is more than capable at 6, indeed a 6. Lam, 7. Savea, 8. Thomson trio would be much better than the current trio. I think the Canes had a real chance to exploit the Brumbies lack of specialist openside (with Pocock missing), but I think they have really missed their chance here....

Anyways... I'm picking this to be a close match. I will wait until I see the Brumbies side before I make my prediction.

I'm picking Ardie Savea for the All Blacks this year ... everyone else will be injured from actually playing/getting game time :)

Hammett was getting a grilling in the press conference. Reporters asking if there were non-rugby related reasons for not starting him. Savea showing a lot of maturity in how hes fronting up and taking it, still showing up with a smile on his face.

Brumbies:
Jesse Mogg, Henry Speight, Tevita Kuridrani, Andrew Smith, Robbie Coleman, Matt Toomua, Nic White, Ben Mowen (c), Jarrad Butler, Scott Fardy, Sam Carter, Leon Power, Ben Alexander, Stephen Moore, Scott Sio. Res: Josh MannRea, Ruan Smith, JP Smith, Jordan Smiler, Lachlan McCaffrey, Conrad Hoffman, Pat McCabe, Lionel Cronje.

Pretty strong Brumbies side - they will miss Pocock though! The bench is certainly interesting. By my count there are 4 South Africans (and a Kiwi).....

That Brumbies side has a massive midfield, though neither Smith or Kuridrani really like to pass so it will be interesting to see how much ball the likes of Mogg & Speight receive...

Would love to stay awake for this, but I'm fading. Next time I'll take a longer nap. :p

Enjoy the match!

das

Stay strong das, I am in the same boat!
Good thing they don't do anthems in super rugby, they'd be playing Nkosi sikele iafrica and Die Stem for the Force!

Hurricanes get a tighthead.... it looked like the Brumbies just forgot to hook the ball.....

Good break there by J Savea... straight over the top of a lock!

wow Canes absolutely robbed. 11 clearly played the player and not the ball, did everything he could to accidentally get his arm tangled up in Barrett's legs. should have been a try and a yellow

I didn't think it looked that bad - Coleman was clearly grabbing in the direction of the ball. It was probably a 50:50 call whether he should have been penalised in my opinion. There was no guarantee Barrett would have scored, so I think a penalty try would have been unlikely even if the ref has decided it was a penalty offense.

Anyways.... Not the best game so far - a lot of errors from both sides. Vaega is having a very mixed starting debut - he's looked pretty good with ball in hand (when he has caught the ball), but he had some bad misses on defense....

Fantastic try by the Canes there! I have no idea how Jane stayed in (did he??).

Barrett has been very sharp so far...

EDIT: No Jane did not stay in. Poor call by the touch judge....

He clearly cut the chalk. The ref does not want to watch that replay twice

Easy try by Mogg - he didn't even get touched.

Peranara has been terrible. They need to sub him at half time or earlier!

He is having an uncharacteristically bad game (though he did well to score that try). I wouldn't sub him though - even in poor form he is far better than Smylie...

Lol that was soft as. Mogg leaves them wondering who had who

When Mogg does his thing, he brings out all his tricks. Step, spin, chip etc..
