Hurricanes lineup added. They've opted to include both Jack Lam and Ardie Savea, while Thrush, Jane, Marshall and potentially Thomson are out for the week due to a range of reasons. Andre Taylor is in line to play his first game of the season.

It's lame to see Peranara on the bench...Smylie did okay last weekend but I don't think Peranara would have done any worse - especially as the Canes finally got some go-forward ball. Great to see Taylor back, but he seems like a confidence player and I can't imagine it's very high at the moment...It's not our strongest lookinmg but team but hopefully it will do...at least Hammett finally plays Savea after all the B.S of the past few weeks (whatdooyyaaa know - you can play both Lam and Savea >.>).

While I agree that the better forwards performance certainly helped Smylie at halfback, the ineptitude of the forwards in prior games shouldn't have had any effect on Perenara's kicking, yet it was absolutely terrible. Likewise his passing was inaccurate. I think a couple of weeks on the bench will do him some good, show that his place in the starting XV isn't guaranteed.

Highlanders squad added to the first post... Darwin ain't gonna be happy ;)

loser done for the season? I'm struggling to pick a winner in this one; home advantage Highlanders; better director of traffic Canes; the rest to be perfectly honest look roughly even; neither team have much form. Will not be pllacing any money on this unless I could get $3+ on one team or the other. Slight edge to the Canes to me.

While the loser could still make the playoffs by all means, I'd struggle to see either team mounting much of a challenge in the long run if they can't win this game. I think the Highlanders first up showing was a blip on the radar (the good kind), and they'll slowly settle into mediocrity now. They might win against the odd touring team but I can't see them knocking over any of the better teams (well, the Highlanders will probably manage a compulsory comprehensive win over one of the better South African sides). The Hurricanes, on the other hand, will certainly challenge the Blues and possibly the Chiefs, but I don't think they have enough back bone to go toe to toe with the more conservative teams, such as the Crusaders and Bulls.

What makes you think that? Darwin is always happy ;)

Ok, so I'm not that happy about the Highlanders side. I'm glad Coltman has been maintained at hooker - he had a shocker last weekend, but he is a quality player. Fia is probably the best scrummaging TH we have so I don't mind him starting, though I do feel we will miss King's work rate (though I expect to see him on not long after halftime). Great to see Thorn back, and I'm happy it is for Hoeata, who has been rather quiet these last couple of matches (after a strong 1st match). I would still like to see Franklin included in the 22 sometime soon. I'm not sure about the make-up of the loose-forwards. Where is Gareth Evans? He was a key performer in the first two matches with his work-rate, breakdown & lineout work, but now he can't even make the 23? Dixon has improved a lot of the last few seasons and he adds another strong ball running option to the pack, but I'm still not convinced about his work-rate.

I would have preferred to see Parker at 10, but at least there has been no sightings of Ripia yet :) I'm not sure what to make of Burleigh's inclusion. I think Treeby has been pretty good so far this season - he straightens the line well and is a solid defender. Burleigh brings a much better passing game than Treeby, but I do worry that we will start to get too lateral again with him at 12, and I still think he is a bit of a weak-link on defense (a concern when we also have Sopoaga and Osbourne in the backline...). Great to see Osbourne back - he has a few obvious flaws, but he is someone who can create something out of nothing. Disappointing to see Baker gone from the 22 again after a very solid game last weekend. Buckman has been solid too (and even made a break last weekend!), but I still think he is far too slow to be on the wing. Rasolea (a mid-field back) beat him on the outside far too easily on the way to his try last weekend for my liking....

Onto the Canes. Not a bad looking side - probably the best they could put out given the players available (barring Perenara). I don't mind seeing Perenara given another match on the bench, as he hasn't really performed to his usual high standard so far (and hopefully won't until after the Highlanders match :) ). Hammett has finally worked out the Savea and Lam can indeed play together - I just wish it had taken him another week to work that out, as the Lam/Savea combo could cause us a lot of issues! Good to see Banks back at fulback too.

^^ Yeah the key to defeating the Highlanders is the backrow. It still is not quite working right for them. The force totally dominated that area last week and im sure the Hurricanes will be looking to do the same with that combination.

Peranara was horrible in the games i saw him play... he deserves a long rest imo for one performance in particular he was just terrible (even A Smith wasnt that bad last year.... maybe).

Joe Wheeler has been very good so he deserves to stay on and Hoeata has dropped off so Thorn/Wheeler is not a suprise. Its a good thing though as you Know Hoeata is going to come out firing when he gets a chance.

the two red headed step children of NZ rugby go at it.

I think you would have to say its the hurricanes that have momentum currently. Barrett is in great form and could tear some serious holes in the highlanders, I'd honestly say he looks the #1 attacking player in the NZ game right now. Julian Savea is looking immense.

highlanders started well and looked like a good team initially but the last performance was an absolute stinker. Sapoanga looks like All Black potential one week then the next he doesn't even look fit for super rugby. Maybe its time to give parker a start? Nasi Manu is supposed to be co-captian but doesn't look that interested in actually leading the team on the field. To me hes looking more like a follower than a leader, hopefully brad thorn will come back and set some dynamite under the forward pack. They need it.

i think i can see what Joseph thinks he's doing but he seems to be taking a scatter gun approach to rotating his squad....and its a bit confusing

treeby has been strong, surely we would be better to have him starting and have baker on the bench, then he can come on for smith and smith moves to 12?

evens is young and has loads to prove, i'd be starting him for more than a couple of weeks, rotate the guys with the known limitations not the guys your still working out, i also think wheeler would be better coming off the bench. I think we should start with specialists and have utilities on the bench

don't have high hopes

Highlanders must be confident. not even naming a halfback for the game.

Manu's playing halfback....and ben smith is as good as two men

Smylie's out, Perenara starting. Should be a good game.

Canes by 8

Typical... We spend 7 minutes in the Canes 22 and get 3 points. From the kick-off we instantly concede 3 points (due to dodgy refereeing)....

EDIT: Ben Smith has been incredible so far! Great break by Brad Thorn too....

That was just bullcrap from the Ref no way it deserved a penalty.

The hurricanes are getting totally dominated here. And Ben Smith is a god how the heck did he take that? I simply dont understand how Dagg has been first choice fullback for the last couple of years.... Smith is a way better player than him!

Man the canes are getting whistled off the park.

EDIT: they are actually getting shafted a bit some pretty bad calls.
