2014 Six Nations: Scotland vs England (Round 2)

Maybe the obvious solution is to leave Hartley on. Only sub if necessary and not as per a plan and timescale.

so funny how this comes straight after a number of posts about some tragic death.

- aww....someone died today...
- what ? oh my...really puts things in perspective, blah blah...
- yes, a sad story to read in deed...
- HARTLEY TOM YOUNGS SUBS !!

People die all the time, he happened to be at a rugby match.

It would be disingenuous of most people to say that they are truly bothered.

when i seen the scotland team for the england game i'd expected a scotland lost, i knew missing kelly brown and richie gray would be a bad choice. and with ross ford still playing but atleast he was subbed off quicker than the ireland game and scotland did play a little better but was still awful

Oh totally agreed, it just looked funny just this time.
I hate how ppl look concerned when somebody dies, especially when it's a celeb and they act like it's a tragedy
Dimebag Darrell or other great musicians dying is terrible news, because it means you don't get to see how much better they'd have become and all the magnificent pieces they had yet to compose, but ppl act like they've lost someone they knew themselves, it's pretty hilarious.

1. Youngs should not play for England again until he learns to throw in.
2. Billy, Launchbury and El Capitano were enormous today with good contributions from many others.
3. England should have won by 40 points
4. If Lancaster is ever to be believed agan he should stop trying to spin his policy of subbing to ensure cheap caps for all squad members......what, 6 subs in last 10 minutes....hardly tactical!
5. Scotland were woeful......

Bloody hot here.................

Agreed on all points.

Robshaw is definitely doing as asked and making more noticeable/better quality contributions now.

what do you make of the Scottish people reading a post like that ? It's fine if you're a boorish fool in your life, but don't make others pay for it. Limit the damage to your own self, not onto others as well.
Oh and, yes they most certainly have to answer your stupid question.

Anyways:
Scotland too ill-disciplined. And then they make nice breaks but aren't too sure what to do with the ball, end up losing it...and they've GOT to make those kicks if they want a chance at it. England too big, too physical. Another case of sheer mass imposing its will on the game. Scotland looking just like the way they did against the Boks in November. Subjected to sheer force, forwards can't cope. Except England blew a couple of sure try situations, they really are the worst at attacking in the 6N. But again, clear game plan, gradual progression, one pass then ruck, so on...efficient.
Farrell having a bad game, or the crappy conditions making him look bad ?

Scotland again showing some intent on attack, but England is just too sound on defense. They'll need to sneak in some tries I think to win this or at least get back into it. And STOP with the stupid penalties handed on a tray to England.

Can you explain your thinking to me? If I'm keeping it simplistic then we put two tries on France, neither due to a bouncing ball going in the right direction and we've scored two yesterday that were well worked. You know, Scotland scored NO points yesterday, had something like 1% of possession in our 22 and completely messed it up when they had a chance to put some points on the board but by your thinking our attack is worse than theirs. I find your opinion confusing, to be honest and I'd like to hear you try to back it up. Bear in mind we were playing on the worst pitch I've ever seen at international level too.

My thinking on the backs:
Farell's improving, but he's never going to be a creative 10 and now it looks like he's never going to be a metronomic kicker, so we might as well chuck Ford in. I don't think Burns going to Leicester will help him develop as the player we need at 10, but I'm usually wrong on how players will develop, so we'll wait and see.

Care looked really good yesterday, been so long since I've seen an England 9 flying up to rucks, going in and getting the ball and moving it quickly, he's the guy we can move forward with. Drop goals too!

I saw someone else on this site say 36 looks like a 7/10 international player and I'd have to agree, he's solid and doesn't normally mess up too badly, but I don't think he'll ever be a top drawer, creative international centre.

Burrell seems to be developing the very useful ability of going completely unnoticed throughout a game then popping up with very clever lines a couple of times and combining that with his strength and pace. He's taken to international rugby very well and I'm impressed.

It's great to know that May and Nowell aren't our first choices at wing, because they both look like really solid players. Nowell's defence and taking the ball into contact is fantastic and May excites me every time he gets the ball. He kept cutting inside off these little steps and no one could get anywhere near him, it was really nice to see.

Considering 3 of the players in the backs have about 5 caps between them I think we're doing ok. Sure, we could be more creative, but we're building well and if we can find the guys at 10 and 12 to spot the opportunities then we'll have a seriously dangerous unit.

I genuinely think our pack is soon going to be one of the best in the world, but the front row seems to be an area of concern. I think Marler and Vunipola will improve with time and love how Hartley's improving but Youngs is gash and Cole seems to have been the same player since about 2009. Can someone with more knowledge than me of the AP tell me what our depth is like here, are there any kids coming through who look like they could develop into top level props? I'm thinking Corbs is never going to play 10 internationals a season again. 8 is about the healthiest I can ever remember it being, both flankers are seriously good players with talent coming through, same for the second row.

I'm really excited about this England team, if we get it right we should be winning a lot of 6 nations over the next 10 years and challenging for world cups. Looking forward to watching these guys develop.

Also, Mike Phillips and whoever the Welsh 23 is are d*cks.

no no, I can't back it up. You're right, you're right. England are marvelous on attack, marvelous...terribly sorry for having wasted your time with this. No need to dwell on it. Next topic.

I never said England are marvelous in attack, I just think you're doing us a disservice by saying we're the worst in the 6 Nations. At least try and back it up.

I'm sorry me and you have had words before but you really are a prat . You come out with all sorts of ******** then return comment with something like this . You're an idiot .

England didn't play very well and they were still miles too good for Scotland.
The weather and the pitch stopped England more than anything.
England have an embarrassment of riches to choose from south off the border.
The Scots have precious few players to choose from north of the wall.
This kind of lop sided contest will produce dull games and very occasional upsets, at best.
The Calcutta Cup is a bit of a joke because the contest has all but gone out of it.
I feel sorry for the Jocks, they are on a hiding to nothing against serious tier 1 teams.

I find it very hard to feel sorry for Scotland after Saturday because:

They march 2 large bands onto an already knackered pitch just before the game.

They waste money on all that Braveheart/fire works/artillery guns crap when they should be investing it in something more worthwhile like say a 3rd region.

Booing kickers doesnt normally bother me but if your going to do it then do it everyone not just ours.

They pick crap players.

They pick crap coaches.

and just a small point before kick off its tradition to have the flags of both nations on the pitch. At Murryfield there were 2 flags on the pitch....both were crosses of St Andrews.

Instead of making this big effort and show to try and upset your opponents and tap into some Anti English crap you could just try and beat us at Rugby!

The rest of the stuff you've mentioned about Murrayfield is always going to happen and you might as well get used to it, but having two marching bands on that pitch was an unbelievably terrible decision. When it became apparent a few months ago the pitch was going to be dog could they not have tried to move it to Hampden?

They pick crap coaches. byTallshort,
will be very interesting next season whether Vern Cotter can do anything with Scotland, with such limited resources, he is a brilliant coach at Clermont, but will he have success with Scotland , should imagine the first thing will be to scour the the SH, to find if they are any decent players down there with Scottish grandparents but will be very interesting to follow especially as its a World Cup year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hard to know what to make of this England side so far... beating Scotland 20-0 isn't really much to talk about at the moment with their form - Scotland have only been of spoiler value for some time now, and you generally expect most top 5 sides to put them away pretty brutally if they manage to get into their stride.

England did look pretty good against France, but in the end it still wasn't enough and it was an awful way for them to start after announcing they were targeting a 6N whitewash this year.

On the other hand Ireland look pretty impressive right now. They had one awful match against the Wallabies at the end of last year, but since then have been pretty impressive - almost beating the All Blacks, and then starting the 6N by comfortably beating both Scotland and Wales in similar fashion.

Looking forward to seeing them take on England in two weeks.

They've been doing that for a couple of years now!

Sean Lineen s job is to manage their u20 team and look for Scottish qualified players in the southern hemisphere. They found Maitland last year but I'd imagine its tough going.

And why are those resources so limited? Because the SFU are more interested in putting on a nationalistic anti-English pre match show to keep his Lordship Salmon happy than investing some time, money and effort into the Scottish club game. They have been bottom of the pile for too long now. Italy manage better on less. Time for Scotland to buck up, stop making excuses and start trying to play rugby. Bill McClaren must be spinning in his grave.
