2014 Canadian Rugby Championship and General Canadian Rugby Chat.

Completely forgot about Evans, he could be 1st5 or FB cover. I believe he has played 1st5 for the Cornish Pirates.

I believe Evans can play Fly-Half if needed but he's starting Fullback for Cornish as far as I know and I think is cover for the Wing if needed. I'd definitely prefer him as FH/FB cover with Trainor/P.Mackenzie as cover for the Centers/Wing.

Also should we keep track of how our overseas Canadians are doing? Like a weekly report/status update or something? I know Carpenter has been the back up Hooker while Evans has been starting Fullback over the first two games for Cornish. Both of them had a try each in the first game of the season. Tiedemann and Beukeboom have two starts apiece with Plymouth Albion. Hotson has two starts with Doncaster while Phelan has been the reserve during them. Not that I'm surprised as Hotson is a known commodity in the Championship while Phelan isn't. Pritchard is doing what Pritchard does in Bedford. I'm too lazy to look up our other pros right now as I'm trying to watch Monday Night Football.

Would be good, Ilnicki got 30 minutes this past weekend apparently. I have found it hard to find info about Buydens and Marshall in kiwiland as those club websites don't always update quickly.

Well another CRC night is upon us once again. Jamie MacKenzie and John Moonlight are making their first starts for the Blues tonight. I'm definitely even more worried now about the Wolf Pack facing them on Sunday. Didn't find anything on the BC roster but I didn't look very hard.

Wolf Pack are facing The Rock right now with no real changes to their lineup. Again McRorie is playing at Fly-Half and is looking good. Makes me wonder if Crowley asked for McRorie to play there or if Moffat is doing this on his own choosing. I mean our other Fly-Half was pretty bleh and Robinson is a solid CRC Scrummie so #2 wouldn't be surprising. Once again I can't find the roster for The Rock but Ciaran Hearn is playing and the score is A LOT closer than it was in Calgary. Wolf Pack only up 24-10 with about 20 minutes left.

Edit: The Wolf Pack beat The Rock with a final score of 31-10. It was looking unlikely that they'd get the CRUCIAL Bonus Point but a 79th minute try by Gilmour off a scrum inside the 5M line of The Rock sealed it. The Rock definitely looked better today than last game, they were only down 17-10 at the half, but again the Wolf Pack were too much. Wolf Pack scorers were Panga, Kyne, Houlihan and Gilmour with McRorie getting all the conversions along with a penalty. Twitter tells me #10 for The Rock got their only try and Hearn was good for the conversion and a penalty.

Next up for the Pack is a road game against the Blues and it's a definite must win. But for now I begrudgingly have to cheer on the Bears to live up to their potential and get the win while limiting the Blues to 3 or less tries. Rather unlikely but I must have faith.

Sounds like it was slightly better tonight for the Rock than, at least that was a scoreline that wasn't outrageously lopsided. Blues need to win now to keep pace with the Pack, the game I've heard is being streamed on the Rugby Ontario website.

Stream is a **** show, no sound, choppy vid. What a shame maybe they'll fix it by half time.

16-8 for the Blues at half time, only one try a piece, Try bonus points might not be earned tonight.

If I got my math correct, if the Pack win on Sunday with a bonus point and deny the Blues one, they win the championship.

The Blues won 29-11 but missed the Bonus point, while Pack got there Bonus point.....I think the table is therefore....

1. Wolf Pack 4W, 1L, 3 BP, 19 Pts. + 92 diff
2. Blues 4W, 2 BP, 18 Pts. + 62 diff.
3. Bears 1W, 4L, 1 BP, 5 Pts. -19 diff.
4. Rock 4 L, 0 Pts. -135 diff.

I think your math is bang on, though the Pack really have to go hard for that kind of result as the Rock haven't offered much resistance and if Ontario can squeeze out a losing bonus point it might push them over the top. Pack must win in all certainty, though a draw would mean the Blues have to get something out of the Rock game.

Rock vs. Bears is a dead rubber on the weekend, interesting to see who wants that win more, pretty bad campaign for both sides.

Pack win, they are in a good position.
Pack win with a bonus point and Blues no BP, it's all over.
Pack are back in the driver's seat, but must take advantage of it.

A regular Pack win might not be enough, the Blues really need to avoid is a bonus point loss without getting any bonus points of there own since The Rock are the Blues final game and barring some sort of uptick in form the Blues should be heavily favoured in that game. They can even salvage the ***le if the they lose fairly narrowly and get no points of their own if they spank the Rock.

It's ashame this isn't a true final the Blues having a game left over kind of denies this being a ***le decider barring a Pack bonus point win.

It is simple, the Pack win with a BP, while denying the Blues a BP and they have won the championship.

Oh in that case absolutely yes, but a regular Pack win leaves all sorts of permutations, depending on the Blues bonus point situation. Essentially the Pack must deny the Blues bonus points even if they do score four tries, or hope the Rock offer up some resistance the week after.

I don't rate a Pack four try win, without the Blues getting their own bonus point at home as the most likely of results. It's posssible certainly but more likely is a narrower Pack or Blues win.

With points differential being at 30, even a solid non BP win for the Pack should see them through, but there would be some nervous watchers from Alberta during the Blues-Rock game.

HAve heard that Matt Harrison had another big game for the Pack, a ARC call up might not be out of the question.

Harrison has been pretty solid whether he's been starting or coming off the bench. I wouldn't be shocked if he wins the starting role next year even if he stays in Winnipeg, though a move to BC or even Alberta may help him out more. Still I'm betting Reed gets the bulk of the Ontario game. I'm also enjoying the Jake Robinson at Scrum-Half/Gordie at Fly-Half combination they have going on. Hopefully it works out well again on Sunday. Steve Arnold looked rather mediocre at Fly-Half through the first half of the CRC campaign(specifically the Blues game) and they needed a change. The team definitely has their work cut out for them to not only win on Sunday but get the bonus point while keeping the Blues pointless.

Also shame about the stream quality. I guess that doesn't bold well for the game making its way online soon? Shame the Bears couldn't topple the Blues but at least they kept them from getting the coveted BP.

If The Rock want a win this season their best shot is revenge against the Bears who are incredibly vulnerable. If they play on Sunday like they did today against the Pack then The Rock should be able to grind out a win.

Rock Should be the Bears at home. They do look a mess. Was reading that after Sunday's game that Moonlight will head back to Victoria to start training for 7s, guess he is out of the ARC already.

I wasn't expecting Moonlight to even play for the Blues let alone Canada A. His focus is on Canada 7's and he has to prepare for Gold Coast 7's which clashes with the start of the ARC. It doesn't really bother me as Crowley could easily just use the Wolf Pack back row and be pretty fine in the ARC. Gilmour is already a lock for a starting spot IMO, Kyne deserves a lot of consideration and Panga has been having a real good season so it wouldn't surprise me. The same could probably be said about the Blues back row though as well haha.

I wonder who else we may lose from Canada A to Canada 7's aside from Moonlight? Trainor and Hammond seem likely as well as Hearn. I believe Scholz, Phil Mack, Harry Jones and Hirayama are already committed. Damn 7's stealing all our Backs. At least it should open the door for guys like Graham Turner and Jordan Wilson-Ross.

Ryan Hamilton was back in for the Bears on Thursday, not sure if this is a permanent return to rugby for him or whether he just had an oppourtunity to get in a couple of games in between his studies. Hooker is still wide open and he is probably the best player we have there though being made of glass has always effected his career.
