[2013 EOYT] France

France looks like they've got a handy replacement for Picamoles in Gillian Galan; who was named MOM yesterday in the Sarries v Toulouse game. He kept Picamoles on the bench; was Picamoles not fit to play 80 mins?

I see that Galan hasn't been included in the French squad, this November.

Gallan has been well managed by Noves and has been since his first game for the first team in 2011/12 attracting a lot of admirers........this was his best match that I have seen him play but he is undoubtably an International andin waiting and may well take Picamoles starting place in both teams as he did last night!

I don't think he's better than Picamoles.
It's not a bad 1-2 combination to have though... whoever you start.

He is just 22 so give him time and he will be better than Louis who is nearly 28 so time is on the side of Gillian!!

Would a back row of Picamoles, Dusatoir and Galan work?

Would be a bit lacking in workrate and would tire very badly in the second half I think.
Bearing in mind ST's flankers were Dusautoir and Nyanga.

yeh good point, it would tire fast. Dusautoir is old and has a ton of mileage on him, Picamoles' role is much much too taxing and he can't be robocop for a full 65 minutes every match and Galan is a fatass...so yeh, we'd need more athleticism and durability for a match there.

Jonathon Pelissie Montpellier's no 9 called up to French squad for the Autumn Tests, Bravo petit tu merites !!!!!!!!!

holy ****, that's right !!....what we'd been yapping about for the past month +...actually happened.
I fear his inexperience...but am very glad we've got such a hungry kid on the squad. Again, very creative and solid throughout, and gotta love that attacking mindset...though I strongly doubt we'll see much of that in his first int'l !...

could you just *IMAGINE* if les Bleus actually win, and Pélissié has a major game ?!....he'll be a lock on the 9 position forever :p
I'm extremely apprehensive about that match however...Domingo, man are we gonna miss him.......but I'm glad we'll get to see more of Forestier. Had difficulties against Adam Jones in the 6N, but who doesn't...let's see what he's got against the All-Blacks.
Every time France defeats the Blacks though, it's always at a time we'd least expected it. It's not like we ever had a situation where France looks really strong and they manage a win against NZ, it's always in the (seemingly) most irrational situations...
maybe the stakes aren't high enough and France just won't play up to their highest ability.

Anyways, here's the potential margin of victory/defeat I'd give NZ for this match: +30/-7.

(not a...)

had a dream last night about the France NZ match. I remember Vincent Debaty (lol) and co. in the scrum pushing the All-Blacks way back and we got a penalty. I remember my point of view was from behind the scrum, so I think I was a no.8 in the match. I think I was Picamoles lol. And the score was 29-26 for France, with like 10min to play...
Hilarious how the subconscious acts. I hadn't thought about that match for days and randomly dreamed about it just yesterday...hopefully it's prophetic :p

It's funny how dreams emphasize our worries: I'm so bummed Domingo isn't playing, I actually dreamed of Debaty pushing off well in the scrum. NOT going to happen in real life !

I had a rugby dream the other week. I was playing for England against France!! it was more of a nightmare really!

oh it's you, you're back. Back to comment on our upcoming win over NZ  ?? STAY HERE, we need some Stade Toulousain blood on this thing...
Sounds quite horrific, in deed ! :p

It's funny how some good dreams can have such a comforting effect on the psyche...it felt sooooooo good to dream that dream. Oh, I sure hope we'll be ready at least for the Blacks...if we play hard and merely organized, at home, there's no way this shouldn't be close, at least within 10 points...

Buddy I would be amazed if we beat the all blacks in November! Overwhelmingly proud and happy, but amazed! If we're to be honest in the last year France have shown some very worrying signs, we used to have solid world class scrums and line outs that we could really rely on but now they're 50/50 at best (I don't know the actual figures ). And what was going on with the whole Michelak at 10 nonsense?!! It was an absolute annoying waste of time! Us Frenchie fans are always annoyed about being inconsistent, well, we've definitely been consistent in the last year! Consistently rubbish! I never sort that one coming!

But all that said I'll still be down my local pub in my France Jersey watching the match and cheering them on! probably the only French fan in there surrounded by English people cheering on the All Blacks just coz they're not France!
I'm disappointed in France at the moment but I'll never give up on them! Allez les Bleus!

They may not have given their full potential over the last year but knowing the players it would not be any surprise if they did beat the All Blacks that is just how France are brilliant the one minute then mediocre the next, unpredictable i think the word is but then thats France, love them ot hate them!!!!!!

that's exactly right.

And TommyGun:
what I'm saying is on paper we've got more potential than in recent years. We're a better team than we were in the RWC in 2011. And we still have a Top 3 scrum, what are you talking about ? It won't show because Domingo's out, but Domingo+Kayser+Mas with good experienced locks behind destroys man.

Anyways: France has never, ever been dominant a whole year. And we've been a relevant national side since the 1950's, so that's a lot of time and a ton of players and coaches and we've got that exact same pattern following us the whole way.
* The bad thing about France is: when we're playing great, it's no indication whatsoever of results to come, we may suck horribly. See Perfect 2012 November, and Wooden Spoon in March.
* The good thing is: when all signs are negative for France, and everything seems to crumble, we start winning again, and there's never a dead France side. We're like Phoenix (after all, only a mythological version of the French coq :p) and from the ashes we're born again.

And to be fair, I'll repeat that our tour of NZ last summer was positive on many points.
The 30-0 second test was just a misfire, many, many sides would've beaten us that day, especially at home. We were utterly terrible, and the Blacks just exploited that, very well though, credit to them.
But the whole "they were rusty" - listen, the All-Blacks aren't ever rusty, for anyone, especially not at home hosting France in particular. We almost got them on that first test despite problems in our scrum (if not for that shytty pass to Picamoles' feet 5m from the line all by himself...). And the third test, with an experimental lineup we managed to come within 10points, in NZ.
Not many teams can say they came within 10 points twice in N.Z. this year, and had a real chance of winning them. I mean we're talking about a team that just won by 11 in South Africa, and scored a comfortable try with 14 men at a point (Read).

And that's the last we've seen of France.
On paper, we're easily a Top 5 team in the world. If we can finally just channel all that potential...

That is a shame....he is far better than Nyanaga and will be a loss! However, Nyanga ain't bad as a replacement..................

Big Ewis: looks like you got your wish with Nyanga starting the November internationals; Ouedraogo is out injured.

haha, well what do you know....first Pélissié out of the blue, now Nyanga...

I'm honestly not sure about that. Unless you get me a stat where Ouedraogo makes 50% more tackles than Nyanga or smt like that...
Nyanga can be brutal with his ball-carrying, we just don't see too much of it...and his mobility on attack is highly uncharacteristic for a flanker. But Ouedraogo is a very 'systematic' tackler, a good workhorse..

Gentlemen please do not believe all that is written in the media, Fulgence Ouedraogo has declared forfait for the 2 days meeting at Marcoussis, not the the Autumn Internationals, he will be getting treatment over the next week and a response will be made then. The press comme dab!! if there is nothing to write about make it up, exactly the same has happend to Bayonne and Phillips.
Pelissie was never out of the blue he has been on the short list for sometime due to his great form so far this season, this was no surprise for Montpellier or myself, he's worked hard produced great form and deserves it, good luck to him.
