[2013/13 Premiership] Round 17

Very happy with that win - we've failed to get BP's this season so the clinical nature of that performance was very pleasing.

Apparently according to the daily mail Fa'asavalu might be cited for his tackle on Strettle, I think that if anything comes from that it's ridiculous. Strettle was falling and he's tried to knock the ball out of his hand. The only thing they can say is he has a clenched fist and he caught Strettle the head, I think he's only getting cited because Strettle went off on a stretcher and they just feel obliged to look at it.

Some good results this weekend... Quins look unlikely to get playoffs this year. Bath had a cracking win, looked tight during the first half but the second seemed to go there way.
And as always lovely to see Saints lose

BS yellow - the tap tackle on Williams meant he was falling when Mumm went in for the hit.
Definite penalty, but no way a yellow.

I hate watching games at Welford Road because referees never do their f***ing jobs properly there.

Definitely wasn't a yellow for the high tackle . I thought they may have been a bit lucky they didn't get a yellow for the deliberate knock on earlier in the game though

Wasn't a YC at all.

Hope Goneva stays apprantley Bai (who is meant to be tigers bound) is trying to help Goneva stay. (according to online chat)

I thought neither was a yellow but some refs have decided that one handed = deliberate which is why some teams (eg tigers v newcastle 2 weeks ago) get players binned for any failed interception.

Refs need to sort that **** out.

Anyway a great result made entirely from first half dominance. Chiefs turned up far too late.

One point of order - Tom Youngs 10/10 on lineouts, including a good few long ones and one to the back end that made the 4th try. Not that people who only watch tests will notice that it's the partnership of thrower to jumper that counts.

Both youngs had a great game.

Cockers saying he is pretty confident in keeping goneva in the post match interview.

Didn't sound that way to me. "We're trying everything we can to keep him" and no comment on the likelihood. I think the only way we'll have a good chance of playing him next year is with silverware.

Cockers said "We're trying everything we can to keep him" and some stuff on keeping our best players and then shortly after "were pretty confident of keeping him" I know because I rewound it 3/4 times to make sure I didn't miss hear it.

You make it sound like he's been 10/10 for tigers all season...and he hasn't.

Regardless, if he's going to play international he needs to be able to hit all his jumpers not just his club mates

Maybe, he's certainly not as consistent as Hartley at the line out . Maybe he was carrying a bit of poor club form . Still if he can't perform at the line out he can't be in . It's a shame because aside from the line out he's our best hooker by some margin to be fair

I'd say he has the run on Hartley in carrying, breakdown, pace and offloading, discipline and it's fairly even in the scrum. Just not very good at the ol' darts lol

Reckon Owen Williams if he continues his form will be in for a shout for the Wales Tour squad.

He will start next week and if he plays well will be the 10 against Clermont imo.

Also Tom Croft was warming up with the players before the game good signs wont be back for a bit still but before the end of season I think maybe the end of next month maybe.

Edit: apparently saying he will be back in around 2 weeks.

It seems kinda silly atm that part of the reason he moved from Scarlets was to get out from under Priestland.

That said, he's still very raw and I don't think he quite has the nous to marshal a Test backline. Youngs seems to be making most of the decision-making for us over the last few games. The BT half time natter made a good point of him swinging the ball out to the centres without really looking up as a habit.

Tigers put down a marker today. A couple of forward passes away from the half-century.

For the last few years Leicester haven't really got going until after the six nations - a bit like Wasps in the middle of last decade.

I noted that Jack Nowell doesn't like the big boys running at him. He missed tackles on Tuilagi and Mulipola to let in Leicester for 2 tries in the first half. The All Blacks will have taken notice

He should have made the tackle on Manu but you can hardly criticise his tackle on Mulipola.
He was in full flight and he managed to hit him very hard - that missed tackle was more down to Logo's power than Nowell's tackle.

BT mentioned that Nowell injured his shoulder early on in the game, hence him going off at half time.
Saying he's chicken with big runners going at him is just utterly idiotic. Have you never seen him play before?
I hope the All Blacks do take notice, because if they run down his channel all game then they'll be getting no where, he's the best defender in the back three, only 2nd to Farrell in the backs all told.
France, Scotland and Ireland tried to target the wee little 20yr old and sent their number 8s running at him in the first halves of those games in the 6 Nations - they soon changed when he chopped down Picamoles/Denton/Heaslip every time.

I agree there. Been a fan of Williams for a bit now, but he isn't ready yet. I'd consider him and Patchell as the next young standoffs to consider down the line. If Freddie is as dire next season as he has been so far, Owen could see more solid game time. Maybe a year too soon for 2015 though.
