2nd: Explaining that the first was not from BoJo/The Tories but is because of parliament as a whole
3rd: From BoJo personally asking not to extend

The one he didn't sign is a statutory instrument and the only one the EU has to pay attention to. Hes technically breaking the law for trying to circumvent a statutory instrument TheSecretBarrister on twitter probably breaks this down far better.

The important factor is the EU have received and acknowledged the request for the extension.

I'm no legal expert but does an unsigned letter carry any weight? Surely at that level there are legal signing rules with a shortlist of authorised signatories? Or more likely is that he's being petulant and defiant in an attempt to maintain support amongst Brexiteers and not be seen to go back on his 31 October 'do or die' promise.

Anyway as ncurd says the EU have accepted it.

It's seams to be governments arguement is he has to send the letter as a formal request. However the Benn act doesn't require the Gov to change its position it doesn't want the extension. How that works I don't know.

I guess it's symptomatic of a Government that just can't function due to it's initial majority now being in the red. In most other circumstances there would have been a VONC or GE to try and sort it out by now.

Yeah and there will be but the opposition are united in trying to stop no deal. Once that is complete we will be in election mode (already are).

So looks like the VONC motion won't go in on Monday, but presumably will if that amendment is defeated.

Bercow ruled exactly the same thing he did on May's deal. The house passed the motion it would not agree to Johnson's deal until the full legistation was agreed to. Johnson just bought back the same motion unamended which he's not allowed to do as the goverment is not allowed to keep putting things forward to the house until it agrees during the same sitting.

This surprised no one and just Johnson et. al. trying to push us v them narrative.

He seemed rather unhappy about having to make the point as well.
Let's face it, May left it 4 months and tried again, and may have been unaware of the rule beforehand.
