We should split this thread into US versus rest of the world. I have a lot of topics I want to discuss with Brits, but it gets bogged down in US culture-war stuff that very few people here care about.
Like, why are Jews rapidly leaving the UK? Why is antisemitism growing every year?

Not sure why they'd leave for the US when last year your antisemitism was at a record high. You've also seen a surge in Islamaphobia and anti-muslim incidents.
Also not forgetting the US turned away 900 Jews in 1939, later 250 of those were killed by the Nazi's

EU could tax US tech companies if Trump tariff talks fail, commission chief says

The European Union is prepared to impose taxes on US tech giants if talks with President Donald Trump fail to bring down tariffs on European goods, the European Commission president told the Financial Times.
“We are developing retaliatory measures,” Ursula von der Leyen said, which potentially includes taxing the digital advertising revenues of companies like Meta, Google and Facebook. “There’s a wide range of countermeasures… in case the negotiations are not satisfactory.”
The EU said yesterday it would pause its retaliatory tariffs on the US for 90 days, a day after Trump also announced a 90-day pause on his “reciprocal” tariffs.
The bloc of 27 countries had been hit by three sets of US tariffs: 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum; 25% levies on cars and a 20% “reciprocal” tariff on all other goods.
Despite pausing the “reciprocal” tariff, Trump is still imposing a 10% tariff on dozens of trading partners, including the EU.
While the US tariffs have targeted foreign goods, the EU is considering using a trade “bazooka” to hit American service companies – and tech giants in particular.
“An example is you could put a levy on the advertising revenues of digital services,” von der Leyen said.
In a statement Thursday, von der Leyen said the EU was “committed to constructive negotiations” with the US, but that its “countermeasures will kick in” if talks fail.
Maros Sefcovic, the bloc’s trade commissioner, will travel to Washington on Sunday to “try and sign deals,” a spokesperson said earlier.

Does anyone here know how to discuss a topic without looking back? What the hell does that 1939 have to do with 2025? We put Japanese Americans in internment camps under FDR. That hasn't stopped millions of Japanese people from relocating here since the end of WWII. The most popular car in America is the Toyota Camry. Most of the people involved in the decision-making in 1939 are dead. Let them stay dead. Stop bringing up the past and act like it has any relation with the present. It doesn't.
Why the yen? That's Japanese. The euro would make far more sense.

Religious hate crimes hit a record high in England and Wales in the year to March, as offences against Jewish people and Muslims surged in the wake of the Israel-Hamas war.
Some 10,484 religious hate crimes were reported in 2023-24, according to Home Office data published on Thursday. This represented a rise of 25 per cent from 8,370 incidents the previous year and the highest level since records began in 2012.
The increase in offences was driven by attacks targeting Jewish people, which more than doubled to 3,282 incidents over the period, while the number of incidents against Muslims jumped 13 per cent to 3,866.
