A Political Thread pt. 2

Someone asked earlier what they import from America. Our culture. The good and the bad. Mostly, it's been bad lately.
now that is an interesting comment, ive always considered America to be an amalgamation of everyone else's culture, so many claiming to be Italian American, or Irish American etc

There is clearly a very strong and distinct American culture.

It’s your movies, television shows, media, music, and a million other things.

might be clear from the inside looking out but what we get, and i'm not saying we don't get a lot, doesn't always feel uniquely American, seems much more common to be other cultures....within America, at most an American twist on something else, like pizza

music is the exception, blues, jazz, country all pretty American...but the tv and movies are just made IN America

maybe that IS American culture, the clash of other countries cultures trying to coexist

And what are we getting from New Zealand? Or the entire sub-pacific region?

Lamb? Bad beer? Funny accents?

i wasn't claiming to be exporting our culture to the rest of the world

I didn't really think it was a shocking thing to suggest that these comparatively new countries (in a modern sense, indigenous cultures obviously pre-exist) have less that is uniquely theirs as by definition we're colonised by multiple other countries

not sure the jibes are needed, i haven't suggested in that post anything is bad about America, every country has accents, deciding to laugh at one and not another is a choice, i enjoy some beers more than others but i dont think any region make inherently bad ones, im not a fan of the more mass produced "light" beers that are popular in the states but have had plenty of very good other beers when ive been there

Not the same thing at all but leaving that aside, how you can say that it's good to have a Jan 6th every now and then is mental. But you did say it was controversial to be fair to you.

I don't want to get into the comparison, because statistically 1 was much more harmful, killed 20 x more people did 90 times more damage and cost 500 x more in damages. I'd Implore you not to look at them as good or bad, they were both stupid causes in reality, routed in good intentions, and the reasoning for both were varied.

My point is, an uprising and a protest that spills over keeps a government, well not honest, but at least careful that if a perfect storm happens and the people align on an issue, consequences of disgraceful governance might happen.

If you can't align with me on the people needing to keep governments honest, well then we have nothing further to talk about.

I think the culture arguments are more specified, or was until recently more black American culture. That infected the planet like a plague, it was so engrossing. NBA, Jordan, Rap, East v West, gang culture, style, music, tv and movies, Will blwdi Smith... all these things made their way around the globe in days, in an are the world wasn't connect, that was impressive. This was the type of stuff that enticed school kids in the 90s and 00s, I know it did me.

In the last decade, we are seeing Beyonce sing country albums, American politics, and the thing that irks me most the blwdi culture wars, dictated globally by Dems and Reps.

I'd also put social media into the culture bubble, that few square acres of silicone valley have done irreparable damage to the planet!

You know about the fake elector plot Trump engaged in, right? You know why he mobilised his zealots on Jan 6th right? How is that similar to a global movement that wasn't organised by a sitting president? If you want to say they were both violent then I could also compare it to a rugby match or some ********. Apples and oranges mate.

He's trolling mate. He'll be proposing medals for those brave Jan 6th hostages next.

Wait? What?

One was about cops killing black people and the frequency is happens compared to any other group even when factoring in things like social status.
One was a completely made up consipiracy theory in the hopes overturning a democratic election!

You can argue about the outcomes but its crass as **** to suggest both had legitimate grievances.

Remember...he's just trying to argue with you.
