I think the police have done most of the damage to their reputation in recent years.

Sadly the police can’t sort out all of society’s problems. Not enough police and cameras and they are hamstrung by the evidentiary threshold. Moved a long way from just planting evidence and beating the **** out of suspects to get a confession - from 1970s and before. Although I am sure it still does happen on occasion. They are made of peeps at the end of the day who can be racist, misogenistic and the power hungry.

I agree but in recent years by constant bad instructional decisions (particularly the MET) over the bad eggs they eroded a fair bit of the work they've since the 70's to increase trust in the force. At a time where society no longer tolerates it.

Day to day policing is difficult and dangerous. The great work the boys and girls in the police do day in day out never gets the attention it deserves. I still think they are the good guys. Cut to death by various home secretary's particularly May and Smith.

Child protection officers \ detectives being one job I'd never want to do.

It's unfortunate, but I think Trump has inspired corrupt leaders and their followers to act out all around the globe.

The timing of this assault by the Syrian rebels makes a lot of sense when you consider that Assad is heavily reliant on Iran and Russia. Iran and it's proxies have been knee capped by Israel and Russia is focussed on trying to getting into a strong negotiating position re. Ukraine before Trump takes office.

The next challenge will be preventing Assad from re-grouping and coming back later on. Eliminating him now would have been the cherry on the cake. Kind of ironic that he was happy to use chemical weapons on his own people but then flees like a scared rabbit when it's time to face the music.

I know it's not great but it would never be a political priority for me to give cyclists better infrastructure, particularly when they don't contribute in vehicle taxes.
