Looks like his days are numbered. Sky reporting that the Govt dropped the amendment because they didn't have enough backbench support to vote against Starmer.

There's now talk of a General Election as a last ditch attempt to get a new mandate and save his own skin. Even if he did scrape a majority he'd be in the same position as Theresa May was in (after her botched attempt to increase her majority) and be a lame duck PM. Fun and games to come.

Even if it were a case of placating the backbenchers (you don't need to kick me out, we just won another election!) they will never, in a month of Sundays, get a majority the likes of the one they have now

BoJo calling a GE should be a threat to the Tories, not a positive - a lot of his MPs will lose their seats if there were a GE anytime soon

Who knows. Maybe a desperate last ditch attempt to campaign his way out of the hole he's in. Polling data will surely be enough for Tory MPs to oust him if many of them are likely to lose their seats. I imagine the letters to Graham Brady will now start to fly in given that the Met have confirmed they won't issue more news about partygate before the May elections.

If a GE was called tomorrow and Tories lost half their majority it would be a good result for Labour. Losing what is it 79/80 seats Judy can’t see that happening in one election cycle.

Any new Tory leader would be under pressure to call a GE sharpish in order to get a mandate and so their majority is bound to get slashed regardless given the baggage they now have. The house of cards could be about to fall.

Yeah, I think the French don't like him as a person. Older wife, arrogant even by French standards and very blunt in his delivery of things rub people the wrong way.

By far the best politician they have though and they should really be focusing on making the national rally irrelevant before trying to get rid of him.

Yeah today does feel like a turning point.

Labour are no longer going to force a vote might just get nodded through.

Have to say they've played a blinder on this motion by wording it so it after the police investigation concludes and Chris Bryant standing down to chair it so a Tory has to, they've literally stopped any reasonable argument against it going ahead. Reminds me of the good old days when the House almost forced a second vote on Brexit.

One of the few (possibly only) times allowed under Erskine May. Basically you can't have a debate about whether to investigate into whether someone is a liar without someone accusing them of being such.

I'm surprised more people didn't do it less so Blackford was one of them. He did get a knuckle wrapping for Mentioning the Queen again.

Hmm..I've been told by Frenchmen I know that he was actually the worst president they had (all of them voted for Mélenchon). Asked a couple of colleagues today as well, one will finally vote for Macron though. I can't say if he's/he was good or bad, haven't had an opportunity to live in France and appreciate him, unfortunately. But I hope I'll have such an opportunity in the future, regardless of who's the next leader, really want (and am thinking) to move to France And I pretty like Brigitte Macron, I'd add

Portuguese prosecutors do not name the person but say they are acting on the request of German authorities.

Simple fact is that the Portuguese authorities botched the crime scene at the time and so made it almost impossible to be used as evidence.

The McCanns though have to take some blame as they left a ground floor patio door open. I don't care if it is victim blaming, you know there are bad people in the world, so don't take the risk with your children just to make it more convenient to have a drink.

Also may be controversial but too much time and money has been wasted on this. Children go missing almost every day and get no where near the police time, resources and money spent. It's only because it's so high profile and attracted huge media attention.

I think a line needs to be drawn under this. If Madeline is still alive, she has spent the majority of her life not with her parents and not in England. I don't really see what they could hope to find now that wasn't available over the last 15 years.
