Women Refs for the Prem

i would say that if the pro 12 start having female referee's then hopefully that could get more females in scotland into the sport and hopefully we wouldn't be such an embarrassment. i'd like to see this actually to grow the sports.

yeah but man, are you saying you want Scottish women playing alongside Kelly Brown and Hogg and co. ? It's an interesting notion. You do have quite some chunks of women up there, eh, you do...true Valkyries.

In an accessory topic, I know I don't like women *commenting* sports. Nothing to do with sexism, misogyny or whatver 'isms' they've come up with in the last 20 years out there fer cryin' out loud.......but the women I've heard comment the NBA for instance always push way too hard, and nothing artificial and unnatural is a good thing. It's just fkn annoying to have to sit through.
Larger point: maybe women just *aren't made* to have any sort of connection or intervention in men's sports ?...

so what, you implying I'm an old bull with a useless poker these days ?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You young arrogant, probably suave little personage...yeah well those huge cows might beat the crap out of you and put you on your ass, SON. How embarrassing would that be, God...some enormous prop like broad tackling me to the ground and I start moaning in pain getting up like a small bish
Imagine backpedaling against a gigantic female prop in the scrum all game long and accumulating like 4 penalties by the end. Dismantle genital package, throw in garbage, wipe hands together. Alrightyyyy, won't be needing that anymore....

I don't think women are bad at commentating - it's only that sometimes, broadcasters use female commentators just for the sake of having a female anchor, qualified or not. It's a mixed bag, just like male commentators. I don't mind Melodie Robinson (former Black Fern, commentates for Sky Sport NZ), but one of the USA Eagles games had a woman on the sidelines who was completely superfluous and added nothing to the commentary.

More on topic, I agree that a female referee - provided that she meets the same standard as her male colleagues, of course - wouldn't be a problem, and that a bigger talent pool for referees is good news.

In regards to commentating.
For women you need somebody with a deepish voice. You see it in broadcasting all along the Western world because people don't really receive well or even respect high pitch voices. With Jonathan Davies and his high pitch screeching you might as well be listening to a girl never mind a full grown woman.

To be honest i would be interested to hear what Maggie Alphonsi has to say she demands a lot of respect and is a quality player.

On the refereeing as others have said the more refs the better.
