What's the schedule for Samoa like this time? How long they have between matches could be decisive in their pool.
So you're losers and need to pipe down.
Nobody cares how many times you come close, and how "in decline" you were. You've got the same number of wins as Ireland so have no high horse to stand on and shout at the irish from.
Yeah, it pains me to say it (from an All Black supporter's perspective), but past records at RWC's account for very little anyway ... Current form/form going in to the tournament, and the pool draw are much more relevant, and to that end, France and Ireland both have reasonable chances, as they both should make the quarter finals relatively easily (unless Italy improve significantly in a short time). The path for Australia, England and Wales is a lot harder as one of them, obviously, won't make it past pool play.
Your pick of South Africa being the champ is a good one, as they will most like qualify first in their pool, and the All Blacks will most likely do the same in their pool, because the other sides will probable not field their strongest sides against them.

On the first bold phrase: AAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAA !!!!.....
On the second: man, could you just imagine if France take care of business and beat Ireland and Italy epically and qualify as first in their pool - only to learn the Blacks somehow lost to Argentina and are second in their pool and France would have to face them after all
yeah current form matters most blahblah. I love that one. Here we go again
How many times have I heard that before?
On their form of the time and going into the 1999 WC we should NEVER had made it to the final and knock your team out in that semi. Any fan would sign up to that. You couldn't even argue that one.
and don't forget, in between, we're declining all along as well
RWC 2007 on current form of the time we should never have gone past the QF yet we knocked your team out AGAIN
RWC 2011 the poorly coached half interested leaderless rudderless Lievremonted French team made it to the final AGAIN
hey my friend, even with the current B-side full of clowns & a national coach under witness protection program
the odds say we probably will again knock your team or any other out
Hehe ... yeah, it would certainly liven the tournament up, but, like I say, they'd have to improve a lot to put either France or Ireland out
It's true you can't definitively say that form going into a tournament IS the overriding factor going into the RWC tournament, what happens with Injuries, tactics, squad management etc, during the tournament is much more relevant in my opinion, but we can't crystal ball gaze and predict what those factors are going to be, let only see how the teams are going to deal with them.
You might well be right, and your team might knock my team out (I'm not doubting that your team or some of the others have the potential to do it, including Ireland), but if that happens, it will be the ability of the team on the day, and the tactics employed, not what happened 1999 or 2007 ... if it was the case, you'd never win the RWC because you failed to deliver the killer punch, and win it previously.
... I could just as easily draw my own conclusion from history ... we won the first RWC (by beating France), and we still have it (by beating France), so therefore we will win/retain the next one
... This obviously an unfair assumption, and does not treat any of the other teams with the respect they deserve, and is based on the flawed logic that because it's happened before, it will happen again.
All I'm saying is current form is a much better indicator than history because it involves the players and coaching staff that are likely to be involved in the RWC (unlike history), so it is a more reliable indicator
I think it should be said that each and everyone of us here, I'm sure (well...quite sure) understands the most telling and rational way to emit predictions is to look at form. Everybody understands that what team A did 10 years ago obviously isn't as relevant as how team A has been playing the past 5 tests.
But at the same time, a little bit like how that bourgeois little piglet theorist Marx used to say, "history repeats itself". And it's interesting, because teams change their rosters entirely, and the coaching staff, everything. Who's left from the 2007 team that beat NZ in France ? But you do still get those distinct tendencies reiterating every once in a while in a very specific-to-one-matchup-in-particular sort of occurrence.
Of course if France meets NZ in the 1/4F, they could get run over badly and nobody will say a thing about it. But then you think of the one intelligent thing that rich fat and greasy German ******** said...
Well, it's certainly more than possible that history could repeat itself from a All Blacks v France point of view as the game schedule suggests that the All Blacks are likely to play either France or Ireland at the quarter final stage, and I'm certainly not taking that quarter final game as a done deal for the All Blacks, regardless of which opponent they play ... if you look at RWC history and the current match schedule, any number of results that have happened before could occur again. From a France New Zealand perspective, the quarter final, semi final, 3rd v 4th, and the final scenarios have all been played out in previous RWCs, so you are more than likely correct that history could repeat.
From a straight head to head RWC match up between the two sides, it's a 4-2 win ratio in terms of game wins in favour of the All Blacks, so for Frenchfan to cherry pick RWC history to imply that France somehow has the upper hand or that France will eliminate the All Blacks, based on "it's happened before" is a little strange to me ... I'm not for a minute dismissing that France could throw us out at the Quarter final stage, but so could Ireland (and that hasn't happened before), or it could be a repeat of the 1987 and 2011 finals, and France could win it (that hasn't happened before), we could meet in the 3rd & 4th play offs (like 2003), and this time France could win ... it hasn't happened before, but it's not totally beyond the realms of possibility.
... Hell, Tonga could have a blinder in pool play, and beat France in the quarter finals (or the Pumas could do it), both teams have beaten France at RWC before.
If I was involved with the All Blacks, I'd be treating both France and Ireland with respect ... I'm personally hoping for a QF match (or a match later) with Ireland, simply because it would be something new at an RWC for both teams, I'm also hoping for a SF between the AB's and the Boks, because match ups between these teams are rare (1995 final and 1999 3rd/4th playoff)
no no im not implyig anything, and definitely not that Fra have the upper hand, you're the one saying that, im simply saying that the current form argument doesn't apply to my country at RWCs. We have torn the scripts many times and thats a fact.
Other than that I have no expectation for next year. Haven't made any prediction if you go back in the thread. Im just waiting for the one good game we might have in us and see and if we knock out our opponents in QF or semi as that to me will be worth the admission fee alone
Unless somebody emerges in the next 12 months then NZ should walk it. There's nothing in the NH (unless Sam Burgess becomes a phenom in the centre) so it's pretty much up to South Africa to provide some opposition.
I'm waiting to see what comes out of the spring tours. I'm feeling in my bones that the ABs have peaked out, and that someone else will be wearing the crown next go round...perhaps even a NH team. A lot of folks say France, but I'm curious to see what England's got going for them (alas, I missed 6 Nations this year, and never got around to checking the stats...maybe I should do that before I open up my fat mouth about stuff I'm clueless about ).
das
mmmm...no, das. I don't think that's exactly right my dear.
and Shaggy no offense but do you have a career in politics or law in mind ? You're probably the best diplomat on this website. Many of your posts are basically "well I'm saying this and I'm not saying it at the same time", not calling your posts substance-less just in a very diplomatic tone Whenever I get into another fight on this website I want you as my lawyer, okay ? I'll pay you in...mmm...rep. Occasionally.
LOL ... well I wouldn't say my posts are substance-less, but then you didn't say that either, did you ... I certainly try to be diplomatic though
... I'm not sure that I'd be the best legal defense for you either ... truth be told, we'd probably both end up in jail
I'd keep an extra tight grip around that soap if you're near Ewis in the communal shower.
The World Cup will not be played in NZ. Everyone knows NZ can only win the RWC when they are the hosts... 24 more years...
