No Quarter - Tool. <- THE greatest Led Zeppelin cover in history. Its better than the original...
gud point....but sum of the lyrics in todays 'rap' are written bullshit thats only there to confuse little kids into buying it coz its the "in" thing ta do..and thats how they get there pockets big when a gud majority of there raps are over exaggerated so that rapper can b glorified more..i believe its a fase thing...it will pass bye the commercial treatment of rap..and hiphop will have its once cherished rap art back in its natural form...where messages were aimd at the hiphop community/culture and teaching there kids to move in a more positive direction in life...otha then talking a whole bunch o **** to people who dont care nothing for the heritage of that music genreOriginally posted by Serge+Mar 20 2006, 10:08 PM--><!--QuoteBegin-sambad5New Zealand hip-hop represents like 1% of the hip-hop/rap out there@Mar 20 2006, 07:46 PM
no actally, before all the f***heads in the nz hip-hop scene thought they were from la, it was listenable. and then the old school skating rap from back in the day was also listenable.
the main thing about rap/pop/techno etc that bugs me alot is that the actual music of it, no credit is given to the members. its like ooh slim shady, ooh tupac, ooh 50 cent. but all the do is sing. often badly. where as for rock bands its like, jimi hendrix burning his guitar, or jimmy page pulling out a violin stick on his guitar, or a drum solo by mr grohl etc.
Apart from shihad it is not like NZ rock is very good either. (I do enjoy Blindspott but seriously they are definately not talented).
While they do not make their own music (except producers who rap like Dre, Hi-Tek, Oh No), rap is generally lyrically better than rock. This is of course all my own opinion.

Yeah I wasn't really talking about the commercial stuff. As then it would be 50 Cent Vs Simpleplan sorta thing which are a disgrace to both genres. Agree on the whole culture thing Chiro, not that I'm into it...rock is still my favourite, but hip-hop does deserve respect.Originally posted by THE CHIROPRACTOR101@Mar 21 2006, 12:49 AM

tbh, im not much of a nz rock fan at the moment. everythings emo punk or indy. goes to most of todays music, hence why i listen to led zep, pink floyd, metallica, nirvana, 'stones, the who, deep purple etc...Originally posted by Serge@Mar 20 2006, 11:08 PM

What I was saying in the first part is that you are basing your opinion of hip-hop off whats out there in New Zealand. If you did the same for rock you would say it sucks too.Originally posted by sambad5+Mar 21 2006, 11:01 AM--><!--QuoteBegin-Sergetbh, im not much of a nz rock fan at the moment. everythings emo punk or indy. goes to most of todays music, hence why i listen to led zep, pink floyd, metallica, nirvana, 'stones, the who, deep purple etc...@Mar 20 2006, 11:08 PM

so? i will consider listening to a whole entire rap song, once a hip-hop/rap star can pull of a song, with no lyrics, or go 8min without singing. lyrics/vocals are the last part of the song to be put in. in rock, it goes, guitar, bass, drums, vocals. rap - someone elses music, play it backwards, vocals. vocals only carry messages and sometimes a rythum, but basically, if you think lyrics are the be all, and end all, go listen to opra. [/b]
i wud say a rapper named 'justice'..who is tha best battle freestyler in tha world..if ya seen 8mile or any otha battle dvds then he is practically the best at that..Originally posted by Serge+Mar 21 2006, 08:42 AM--><!--QuoteBegin-THE CHIROPRACTOR101Yeah I wasn't really talking about the commercial stuff. Yeah I should of said vocals rather than lyrics, because the rhyme and flow is also a big part of hip-hop. And have you never heard of instrumentals?
8 Minutes let alone 4 minutes of Guitar, bass and drums is as boring as hell, 1-2 min interludes/intros are cool though.
But anyway I'm going to stop here as things do not seem to be going anywhere.
Static-X - Destroy All [/b]
while my guitar gently weeps - beatles?
comfortably numb - pink floyd?
guitar solos boring? yeah, right. [/b]
