I remember Pountney captaining Scotland. He has no Scottish blood (Grandma from channel islands qualified him for scotland or wales) and never lived or played in scotland. For rugby players at the top (i.e. proffesional with international opportunities) playing international rugby is a great chance and motivation is firstly for the team and players you play with. Actual nationality is not as important.
