Warm Up Match 3: Crusaders v British & Irish Lions (Christchurch)

How are AWJ and Hogg starting in the Saturday team?

Also will we have a haka before every game now?

Hogg has something to prove but then again so has Liam Williams, who I am a big fan off but does show his lack of brain cells sometimes. I just hope Halfpenny doesn't start in the tests, offers nothing going forward and there are just as good goal kickers playing 10. I wonder if they will give Payne a go at 15?

Ah I could see a win for us but wouldn't put money near it. The Lions really need to shake things up and stop the stupid mistakes (eg Liam Williams regressing three years and giving away the same stupid penalty twice). Throwing new players around won't solve it because the group's cohesiveness is bloody awful.
Really love the back three but they need the ball. Te'o has been good, and this isn't knocking him, but he and Davies have bad balance and very few distributing qualities. Could see a better offloading game though.

If by that you mean the first choice side, I wouldn't see this as the 'Saturday' team just yet, this game just happens to be on a Saturday - I'd reckon on next weekend being the first proper indicator of how the test 23 is coming together.

I picked the last Lions selection to get 17 or less points. This is a lot better and I can see them getting around 23 points. Questionable if that will be enough but I am marginally more optimistic for the Lions chances here than I was for the side picked against the Blues.

Loads will rely on the Farrell / Teo tandem to unlock Davies, Hogg and Liam Williams and I know nothing about Teo. So anything could happen from my perspective.

Many people think it's being overused and lost its power and its "mystique" a little bit.
and they are right, but I am surprised that some of the Provincial sides are doing it and not the others. Thought it would be an all or nothing thing

Each franchise was given the option of composing and performing a haka solely for their Lions match. It came down to the club's decision. From what I understand the Canes strongly considered it but ultimately the players collectively decided against it, while the Landers staff and players weren't overly keen on the idea. The other clubs decided that they did want to perform a haka.
Personally I have no issue with it... I think it's cool that they all get to embrace their culture and the culture of their clubs and lay down a challenge for what is an incredibly rare and special occasion.
It wasn't something that the Kiwis just decided they were gonna do either... it was run by the Lions and they welcomed and embraced the idea.
There are hardly any Maoris in the Crusaders so it'll be interesting to see how that turns out. The Chiefs already have an established haka and strong Maori roots right throughout their club, so no doubt theirs will be worth while.

As far as Hogg goes, 1/2P needs a rest, Payne has a dodgy calf and Williams didn't exactly cover himself in glory. Deserves another chance. Bit of an X-factor back three on their day. Let's hope they get plenty ball and find their mojo.

AWJ is Gatland's man. If he plays like he did on Saturday then it pretty much confirms that he's crocked or unfit and shouldn't have toured.

I prefer Williams but Hogg has gas and he needs a chance to show more than he has so far.
Please, no diving Mr Hogg !!!!

i'm glad its getting demystified. its not mumbo jumbo its a welcome.
so what if its overused? as long as they do their own haka, personalised to the team then its fine. shouldnt be using kamate or pango o kapo as those really are the ABs haka's. i'd like to see some new choreography.
haka isnt about scaring the bejezzus outta the oppn, its a welcome with honour and acknowledgement to the oppn and a thank you for coming to compete. its the equivalent of boxers touching gloves before battle.
its an unsaid saying that even though we're gonna smash each other, we do it with respect and thank you for coming to play.
haka's are about welcoming, inclusion and embracing.
the whole anti haka thing is just par for this time year

i think this barret love is getting out of hand.
whilst jordie is a good player imo dMac has more to offer.
scottBarret in for tuipolotu? wow that is way wrong. despite tuipolotu just coming back from injury imo he's still a beter all round lock

Patrick let himself down with lack of discipline. Rightly not picked.
