Wales vs South Africa

Jonathan Thomas has been rubbish today imo, gets driven back everytime he takes the ball in, hasnt been that great at the breakdown either
damnit...bradley davies held up...

This scrum has taken over 3mins to complete.

Try, for Prydie. Well worked.

Pitty Jones missed the conversion. Was a tough one though.

That was bloddy stupid.

Game over for Wales :(

Spoke too soon, AWJ with a try!

Jesus christ, we just can;t do our basics right. So many mistakes which just gave points to South Africa. Din;t help that Alain Rowlands missed so much - Januarie knocked it on in the build up to Potgeiters try, dodgy turnover for de Jonghs try, should have been a yellow for Potgeiter killing the ball when a try was on. Frustrating as hell to watch Wales underperform this badly, and just give away cheap penalties and tries. I don;t think Im gonna bother getting up early to watch the tour games in NZ, we're only gonna get slaughtered anyway.

I don't really know what to think of that, one one hand we showed an improvement over the 6N performances but still a very frustrating game to watch. Good to see Warburton have a cracking game, Prydie getting the try he deserved but the constant brainfarts in the middle part of the game are still costing us too much.

Quick roundup on how I thought the Welsh team performed.

01 Paul James. 7/10. Good scrum time, worked hard, but he's no Gethin Jenkins.
02 Mathew Rees. 6/10. Good around the park, but the lineout fell to pieces.
03 Adam Jones. 5/10. Doesn't look totally fit imo. Looked to be struggling scrum time after the first 30mins. Wasn't as prominent as usual around the park.
04 Bradley Davies. 9/10. he really is a great player. Works hard and makes soo much yardage.
05 Deiniol Jones. 6/10. Tried hard, but probably not quite up to it at this level.
06 Jonathan Thomas. 5/10. Showed up alot, but struggled with the physicality of the Boks.
07 Sam Warberton. 8/10. Started and finished strongly, but did go a little missing in the third quarter.
08 Ryan Jones. 7/10. One of his better games, but he lost the ball a few times at restart.

09 Mike Phillips. 9/10. Superb game. Couldn't have done anything more imo.
10 Stephen Jones. 7/10. Ok. His mistake led to one South African try, but he does organise Wales well.
11 Tom Prydie. 8/10. Did very little wrong, except an unfortunate kick. Scored a try and was solid defensively.
12 Jamie Roberts. 7/10. Made ground most times he took it in. Set-up Prydies try. Good defensively.
13 James Hook. 8/10. A number of class touches helped keep Wales in touch.
14 Leigh Halfpenny. 7/10. Chased everything, but didn't get any oportunity to shine.
15 Lee Byrne. 7/10. Dropped a couple of high balls, but also took some beauties.

Alun-Wyn Jones. 8/10. Improved things when he came on.
John Yapp. 7/10. Few good drives, decent showing.
Rob McCusker. -/- No time to show anything.

Wales can be very happy with that I think as they did superb and well Warberton is a fine player but like Dullonien I must say Phillips is a super player and was immense today

That's more entertaining rugby from SA. Still no idea how to break midfield off first phase ball, but fewer high kicks and good breaks in broken play. #7 looked ok in the first half, then he scored his try and you could tell he finally felt at home and had a cracker after that - very smart player. SA backrow overall was really effective. Still can't understand why Steyn is used just for catch 'n kick - he is dangerous hitting the line.

Wales made too many dumb mistakes, gave too many soft points. The rot set in when Byrne hurried a penalty and missed touch at about 30 mins. Stv Jones pathetic clearance to the SA right wing which led to their first try. Hooke coughing up the ball in contact before their second try (his pass for Pryddie's try was a beaut). And FFS - Ryan Jones going offside for SA's final penalty kick, he's the shagging captain. I reckon they can compete with the best, but everything has to be kept disciplined, players mustn't panic, stay ice cool - tall order.

Anyway, you can see why the Millennium is packed everytime. And Cardiff's cardio-vascular units.
