Anyway back off topic.
There really is nothing left to say. If ireland win this match they will have deservedly by the no.1 team in the north. If they lose well it re-enforces the arguement that this team has bee lucky to get themselves into this position and are not as good as Scotland and Enlgand (as Teh Mite EFFECTIVELY is saying).[/b]

What I <strike>EFFECTIVELY</strike> ACTUALLY said was they were lucky to contain ****-poor English and Scottish sides. If that makes them the best team in the NH, that's more a comment on the state of NH international rugby then how 'wonderful' Ireland are.
[/b][/quote]

I never said they were a wonderful team. Stop thinking that we need a dose of reality. The team can only beat what's in front of them. Nowhere near world beaters, but a definite improvement since last year. Go on, contradict that.

For the last time I compared the method, not the teams, I don't know if there's any simpler terms for your addled minded brain to comprehend.

I've got a couple of shots from the Ireland - England game I'll have to throw up somewhere[/b]
Awesome...that'd be great! ...+rep for you when you do!

F*cking hell, what a waste of two pages...

Has there been any interesting news we can discuss?

Lee Byrne and his impending slaughterage of the Irish defence.

Edit: made pointless arguement here about interpretation of Scotland and England games.

The comparison he used that "England hardly set the world on fire when they won the world cup but nobody gave a damn" isn't "Why are you talking us down, England played the same way", he's saying "England in 2003 weren't any better at it then we are now". You and I both know that is clearly untrue.[/b]
Fully agree with you that its not a true comparison but you seem to be argueing with yourself, cause Tarbh never said that. I've read and re-read that line quite a few times and im confused over the confusion. He's actually clarified it a few times (look up).

Just to put it to bed. This Ireland side is not in anyway near to being as good as "the Great" England Side That Won The World Cup In 2003. We havent won anything, they won a WC and pummelled the SH teams while doing it. It was f***ing great to watch at the time.

But they both play (or played) f*** ugly rugby.

I'll accept if you come back and say I was blurred by the beauteous vision of England's sheer awesomeness, but I don't think we were always playing fugly rugby.

The team certainly knew how to batton down the hatches and win tight games; and dropgoals, penalty kicks and forward bullying is what it will be remembered for. But also remember that England scored a lot of very good tries; the likes of Greenwood and Robinson were some of the most crafty and sparky players about at the time. Off the top of my head I'll point you to the try in the Final; the Greenwood try against Wales in the QF... we were able to run through the Springboks, Aussies and All Blacks without needing to resort to rolling mauls and so on. Plus the day we f***ed the Irish in Dublin. Imagine Ireland putting 40 on Wales this weekend. Can't? That's what England did in 2003.

Incidentally, if Ireland do batter Wales then I'll be the first to congratulate their position as a good team.

Hence why I never said this team was ever as good as that team as to make such a comparison would have been moronic.

well Paul Wallace thinks the Munster boys will be the key to victory given their experience of winning the 2 finals at the Millennium Stadium. That's better no?

He also said something along the lines of Ireland having the temperament and know-how to win on Saturday. Now if we were talking about Munster I'd agree with him, but I just can't understand where he's coming from as Ireland have arsed-up every opportunity that has come their way for the past decade; and they'll probably do the same on the weekend. Not a -13 points arse-up, but I feel the Grand Slam will once again elude them.
If they do achieve it though, fair dues and they'll receive my whole-hearted congratulations. :)

go away, it's 48 we're trying to replicate not 51.[/b]
What happened in 51? I only get the History the press feeds me when they think its relevant.

Yeah thats what I was aiming at. It wasnt always all bad, and you handed out a series of thumpings playing good stuff, but when it got tight you could lock it down in the forwards, fall back on Wilkos boot and come through with ease.

Ireland cant do that, but its something they are trying to do. Thats all I was saying anyhoo.

As for being a good team. Ahhh I still think its too early in my opinion. Whether we win or not on Saturday its all about the following two years. I'll judge the team in two years time.

In 51 we went to Cardiff for the grand slam but our first choice kicker got injured in the Scotland game previously and there was a 3-3 draw in Cardiff, it would have been an Ireland win under modern scoring though.
