Cheers for the link, I'm really excited now, after feeling somewhat deflated by everyones negativity, I think it looks great! Yes it's 08 ish, but I loved 08, and still play it a couple of times a week (although now set stupid goals for myself like winning the world league with no recruits, or only scoring via kicks), did you guys play on hard, and was it? Its gotta be tough with only the world cup!

Hard is definitely hard,
I played against England (with Cymro, two players vs AI) and we got beaten 22 - 0
Most games we played vs AI were on medium, and that was about right, lost some won some
Obviously with more time you'd move to hard, but the step up was certainly a lot more than on previous games

How useful are the various defensive settings?

I think they were useful - I found myself using them a bit, especially setting the defence to "Tight" when getting close to my tryline to stop any pick and drives or scrumhalf darts

Give me the demo NOW! While it did seem to have the same animations as 08 in part it looked ike there was ahuge step forward in terms of gameplay. Also I think I like how the ruck works just hit the button but don't over do it? similar enough to real life.

I think it's more the fact that multiplayer is really fun to play
Obviously it doesn't have the game modes of RC, so having a good multiplayer mode is important, and they've nailed it (for me anyhow - I was very impressed with two players on the same side multiplayer)

There are still more announcements to come - while the game itself (i think) was pretty much done, some of the polishing is left to do (for example Englands kits aren't in there yet, as they haven't been released - it just has placeholder kits, which look like the current ones (White w/ grey, and Black w/red))

He's been caught on the spot by a random question that he didn't have much time to respond to. First he's watching the game and having a beer. 2 seconds later he's being interviewed and not wanting to just say, "huuuuuuuuhhhhhh, whut wus daaat" into the camera (not that he'd ever say that, lol).

At least that's how it appeared to me.

I also agree with Olyy, I think he was more meaning multiplayer, but was just caught out by the moment.

Personally would rather RC over this but that being said....

Positives:

AI is smarter
AI seems harder
Good contest at the rucks

Negatives:
Same animations from 08
Kicking looks weird
Button mashing at rucks
Side cam looks lame (Not a side cam sort of a guy )

Looks like Rugby08....

The stadium atmosphere sounds great. Love the World in Union song during menu screens, it really adds to the feel... The crowd all seem to have the same celebration animations and they celebrate in sync though which looks pretty funny...

Just wondering, where is the commentary?

The more I see of both games, the more I realise that there should be a place for them both in most peoples collections for different rugby experiences.

I kinda thought he might be like me. I can have 2-3 beers and start to sound a bit tipsy, but then not change a bit over the next 8-10 of them (not that I condone that sort of thing).

Is there a problem with the rules or is the ref a little blind On one of the trys, it looks like the player knocks the ball on after getting hit in goal, and his teamate player dives on the loose ball for a try. Seems like it should of been a knock on. Lots of good stuff shown though!

For those teams that are not licensed.. Perhaps we can have a thread so we can have the official team lists together with player names and stats so we can edit it into the game.

We are not HB, so it wouldn't be as though HB are promoting which names to change to which real players, so I really can't see why not. We'll wait until release to start it no doubt, so as not to get to release and have 12 pages of people talking about everything but the editing and moving around of players etc.

Also.. We can change the stats of the players correct.. Can we also edit their height, weight and body build? Coz from what i remember AJ saying we cant edit facial characteristics.... But nothing about weight, height etc...

Okay, Checked the FAQs.. Yep, you can edit Height and Weight.

The games are worlds apart, and vastly different and any true fan of the sport should own both
not only the above criteria but the fact both games are shaping up nicely, and will score similar in the reviews
its not as if one game is going to get hammered with 3/10 and the other a 9/10.
if there is any debate of which game is better - any true fan of the sport will have both in their collection
