Transfers rumours

Schalk van der Merwe, loosehead prop to Ulster.

Some positive signings for Ulster. Even without seeing van der Merwe, he's surely an improvement on what they have. Arno Botha helps a **** poor backrow. John Cooney isn't on Ruan Pienaar's level but he's 5 years younger, getting better all the time, showing good form and will benefit from Dwayne Peel's tutelage. Jono Gibbes is a massive upgrade on Allen Clarke. They still need a better backup for Paddy Jackson though.

Wasn't he in Montpellier? Big lump of a fella.
Agree though Snoop they are upgrading which is great. Pack need a bit of roughness and grunt in 2nd row still though

Mostly agree. Coetzee has been a big improvement in the back row but still lacking an open side though IMO.

With the exception of Cooney, the signings are upgrades on the outgoing players.

Denis Coulson to Connacht. I believe that's the entire Irish Grenoble contingent if true. He's very experienced in a tough scrummaging league for his age.

yes it's he, Schalk came as a WC joker, and stayed for another season after that, he wont do you any harm probably not the best but far from the worst in the world. also very nice guy

The third Ulster plantation is under way. South Africans have been doing a great job of colonising Belfast of late.

Will certainly improve the Ulster props.
On Coulson he's only 22 and has 3 years survived in Top14. That says alot. In a league where scrummaging is key.

they started with Montpelier and now moving on to BelfasT, if you want to make some money open a SA Jerky shop !!!

Sorry Waspos, Beale back to Oz!

Uhhhm this is what can and does happen when you get expensive imports.

Never mind still lots to play for this year and two new ones (so far) to come into a very talented backs division.

Hopefully Cipriani goes to France too

Really keen to get rid of Cips? After all that?

TBH yeah I am. I just don't like him, his attention sees somewhere else to ATM. I think he is an above average player with moments you could call genius but to often he does silly things at inappropriate times that cost us points and he is a bit shaky on the back foot. Don't get me wrong though some moments are magic.

Just my view (not worth a lot really) but I would much prefer Jimmy as starting 10 and Danny coming on at 60 minutes to have ago at a tiring defence with Jimmy dropping into IC. I don't see him leaving though or him being an impact player as Dai likes him and who am I to argue with that. Lol

Would hate to see him go to Quins with Marchant coming through.

Quins have been linked with lots of players but we very rarely land big signings. I think there is pretty much zero chance of Fekitoa coming to the Stoop.

I agree with you re. Marchant though. He is looking better and better and is undoubtedly the future for the Quins 13 shirt. 12 is where we need to invest. Roberts has been an expensive flop and the sooner we lose him the better IMO.

Surely Wasps fans knew what they were getting with Cipriani? He is the living, breathing definition of mercurial. Yes, he is capable of both the sublime and the ridiculous, but I'd say he's played more good games than he has poor ones in a Wasps shirt.

It's not like there is an abundance of top-class 10s available at the moment, so I wouldn't be in rush to say goodbye to Cipriani if I were a Wasps fan.

I'd happily have him at Quins and we'll take Eastmond and Miller too if you don't really want them. ;)

Hearing Ross Moriarty going to Scarlets next season from Gloucester anybody else heard if is true

Doubt it he is still in contract next season I think.

And can't see the WRU or Scarlets spending the money to get him out of it.
