Transfers rumours

You have to remember, Ewis, that even people who speak English fluently as a second language sometimes just don't understand wordplay.

He's been taken off the Tennis not sacked totally.

Not quite sure why he's getting so much hate?

BBC reporting that Hook will sign for Gloucester.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/27559742

Such a fantastic XV coming together for next season:

1. Wood/Thomas
2. Hibbard
3. Afoa
4. Stooke
5. Palmer/Hudson/Galarza
6. Savage/Kalamafoni
7. Kvesic
8. Morgan/Evans
9. Laidlaw/Robson
10. Hook
11. May
12. Twelvetrees
13. Trinder
14. Simpson-Daniel/Sharples
15. Cook

Great team coming together for you, but is Hook the right kind of 10 ? I thought a more pragmatic goal kicking ten would work better than a erratic player like Hook, then again Laidlaw isn't a bad goal kicker and tactical kicker.

I think there are options. Personally, I always liked Hook as a centre. I thought his best games for Wales came at 13. So I'd definitely love to see Hook feature there (Twelvetrees and Hook as a partnership would be pretty mental), but it depends on how well Laidlaw or Aled Thomas would do at 10 really. Goal kicking may still be a concern, but between Laidlaw, Robson, Hook, Thomas, Twelvetrees, Cook and McColl, surely at least one of them must find some form with the boot over the summer?

Ian Evans move to Toulon has been cancelled by Toulon after they signed Romain Taofifenua. Deep.

He's coming to England instead.

Apparently Gloucester offered Hook over 300k.
That'd put him, afoa and Hibbard combined at just shy of a million squids!

Also would be absolute lunacy. There's a reason that Ospreys, Wales and USAP didn't want him as their starting 10 (I know he's versatile/far better elsewhere but Gloucester need a 10, and Hook wants to play 10 soooo.....)

Hook's versatility has always been the reason he's shifted around the squad though. It starts out as a "will you help us cover this position" and ends up "keep playing this position, because we want to accommodate another good player". I've long thought that Hook would have had an established position in the Welsh squad, had he not kept shifting around the squad. Especially, had he decided to continue as a centre back when he was putting in great performances there for Wales, I think Hook-Davies/Roberts would have been used for a long time (and would have been the best partnership for Wales).

It's something that I'm half-expecting Gloucester to do. Hook will start at 10 initially, but I think he could potentially settle at 13 for Gloucester. Depends on two things really:
1. Whether Trinder's defensive issues are still not sorted out by a new coach. (Or if Isaacs/Atkinson cannot fill the gap well.)
2. Whether Aled Thomas comes with form at 10.

Although I'd also be curious about Sinbad moving in to 13. It's been tried before, and he was never as good as when he was on the wing, but things can change. It's such a shame leaving out one of May/JSD/Sharples.

Cant be much cap left then.

Who has left them?

Not many big names (also when they signed they previous contracts will be key)

Matt Cox, Ryan Mills, Olly Morgan, Koree Britton, Huia Edmonds, Jimmy Cowan, Freddie Burns, Dan George, Will James, Andy Hazell, Tavis Knoyle, Tim Taylor, Tom Heard, Tom Young, Mike Tindall.

All leaving or retiring.

That's a hefty chunk of the cap freed up, especially with the cap increase.

As well as Akapusi Qera, Johnny Bentley, Rupert Harden, Lua Lokotui and Martyn Thomas. (Last three not confirmed, but you can read between the lines.)

Although subtract Heard. He was in the academy so never really on the salary cap. Tindall may also stay on, but unlikely with the Hook signing. 19 players leaving. Jesus. That's more than half the squad changed in a year.
