Transfers 2014/15

He's got a really impressive highlights package on youtube. Seems to have a really aggressive running style and plenty of size and power. Good running mechanics as well. He's got a lot of potential. Reminds of George North in a way. I could even see him developing into a crashball centre for the USA.
has he, wow i better search him up

So Caucaunibuca is back in the Pro D2 with Agen again.

weird to think Leicester were on the verge of signing him before he missed his medical and didn't turn up. Mind you it would have probably made him again or broken him completely either imagine him and Alex Tuailgi together on the wings.

London Scottish have dual registration of 5 Quins players:

http://www.therugbypaper.co.uk/late.../london-scottish-dual-register-quins-quintet/

Sam Twomey, George Merrick, Harry Sloan, James Chisholm and Sam Stuart

Wise move and good for both parties. A few of those guys have been at Scottish before and Merrick was at Ealing last year. Would personally like to see more guys go to Ealing, but thats bias for you.

Still think Quins squad look a little light on experience and proven quality in depth. Potential great first choice 23 but a could of injuries, suspensions or people away in the international window and things are going to look dicey.

agreed mate, i think dual reg is a good move for any fringe player.

@Rats - what's your twitter mate?

Speaking of dual reg, interesting news out of Sarries:

http://www.planetrugby.com/story/0,25883,3823_9391973,00.html

Sheriff on a season loan to Bedford.

Scott Spurling, Matt Hankin, Nathan Earle, Hayden Thompson-Stringer, Nick Tompkins, Aaron Morris and, big call, Maro Itoje all dual registered there as well.

Obviously dual registration still means players can and do play plenty of games for their 'parent' club, as I believe Farrell did when dual registered with Bedford at the start of his career. Maybe a bit surprised to see Itoje, Earle and Tomkins there though.

I'm not surprised at all.
Sarries want to, and realistically could, top the league and win the HEC - they'll want all their experienced guys playing as much as possible, and they've got good depth in most positions.
Better for the younguns to be playing everyweek in the champ and then coming back for the LV=/odd prem game, than be doing sod all most of the season.

Bout time Sheriff got some first team rugby under his belt. About 25 now isn't he?

In Earle, Itoje and Tompkins Bedford have got three cracking players!

Wise by Sarries to loan them out...as long as Bedofrd play them regularly.

Out of interest, how do championship supporters feel about the recent loan deals? Surely it can only serve to improve the standard of the league, but for the clubs on the receiving end it must be very frustrating to take a player on, develop him, and then have to give him away. I suppose that'd happen to their own players if they showed enough promise though anyway.

not much different to how it works in Ireland is it? you play for a club and that club feeds the province doesn't it? so you can get called up to the Leinster training squad whilst still playing club rugby and so on...

Clubs like Bedford would be dead in the water without their dual-reg and loaned players - I can't see anything for them to feel sour about.

It doesn't really work like that. Players first get involved around 15/16 in the provinces after trials at this age players are seperated into schools and club players. The schools side is generally the stronger. Inter-pros start at u18's level where you start to see who the highest rated players are. Then at u19's the clubs and schools sides combine, trimming the fat I suppose. How a player progresses through these including how they play for their school etc. are deciding factors but u20's is the biggest year. If players haven't got an academy contract by then it becomes much more unlikely that they'll ever get a pro contract. That does seem to be changing but it's still a small number of players that wil get a contract based on how they're going with their club at senior level, most have to go to the championship or Connacht to get a contract.

Anyway aren't the clubs in England completely seperate entities? It's not like Bedford are under the Sarries umbrella or are they?

EDIT: Sorry for what is probably a completely incoherent post.

but in Ireland there is no progression for say Malone RFC to get into the pro 12.

while say London Scottish could get promoted lose 5 players and then play against those 5 players

ok, that makes sense, and is a bit different to what i was saying.

I suppose so. Like Rats says though, these clubs and the standard of the championship rely on those players, and it's a win win situation as everyone benefits.

Gareth Anscombe --> Cardiff Blues

Confirmed.

I don't have one, GN10.

Finally some confirmation. Bigger signing from a Blues perspective than a Wales one imo, we were badly lacking in both the 10 and 15 departments, so a quality player who can cover both is great!

Already a better fullback option than Williams.
