Transfers 2014/15

Anyone know if lamb to Worcester is until the end of the season or next season as well? I seemed to miss the length of his Worcester stay

Probably a cue for Clifford to get more game time next season as well, which is a good thing. Hope he does well at Irish though, I'm a big fan of Guest.

Sam Burgess --> Bath

Will be announced in a press conference on Monday.
Bruce trumped up the transfer fee (assumed to be £500k).

Where do you think he will play? Eastmond and Devoto are coming through as inside centre contenders, could he do it at outside centre? Also talk of him being used as a backrow.

Don't think he'll play with a 12 on his back - Eastmond is first choice by miles, and is a major component of our game.
I think it's most likely that he'll be used as a crash ball IC when needed, but be used as a carrying option for Kyle at first receiver.
Kyle defends at 13 a lot so I'd imagine Sam would be put at 12 in defence - less to think about and more capable of dominating big ball carriers.

I do think they'll have an open mind about where he'd play.
We are quite well off for back rowers though.

Blindside - Garvey is a nailed on starter, with Fearns a capable replacement.
Openside - Flouw is world class and a key leader... even if it was a position of weakness Burgess ain't going to be a jackal any time soon.
Number 8 - Some people seem to think we need to bring in a new 8, but personally I'm very happy with Houston.

Fearns and Sisi both cover the "massive 6/8" role well.

If the coaches think he would fit in well as a lock then it is a much more open position, but that's clearly a big if.
And if he shows promise at 8 I could see him being used there, Houston is great, but not insurmountable.

This will all depend on what influence (if any) the RFU have in this of course.
But from a Bath perspective those are the options.

To be honest Bath is probably the worst choice of club he could have made if he wanted to play for England as there's simply no room for him anywhere.

I thought Devoto was excellent yesterday, as well - think Bath should think about moving him to 13 full time as him and Eastmond worked exceptionally well together.

I think we are still trying to figure out what his best position is - he may still be a FH.
We know after last season that he isn't an outside back!
Time will tell.

I think our setup is the best for him TBH - lots of League experience and personell to help his transition easier.
And a proven recent cross-code success in Kyle. Not to mention we are one of a handful of clubs who can afford him and the City and Farleigh are hard to beat.

In terms of personel at OC - either he's better than them or he isn't.
If he is then it won't be a problem if he plays instead of them.
JJ has been good, and is potentially a better winger than some of the guys currently playing there.
And Williams is decent but always injured.

Yippee! What a great move for Bath this should add some power into the squad and strength in defence not that we actually need it.
Personally I think Devoto is suited to 13 showing that he was a capable enough starting player at Exeter yesterday, but i guess with Burgess coming into the ranks he'll prove to be a very very handy replacement.
Is there a source for this or have you just just heard from somewhere that it'll happen?

I agree that coaching wise it's a good fit, but I just don't see where he's getting game time unless he's playing 8, which to be fair I could see him doing very well at.
Wouldn't be his best choice if he wants to play for England, though.

JJ at wing could be decent. Not sure about Watson at FB, he looks good on the wing. Shame Abendanon is leaving. With Biggs going and Banahan being poor lately Bath need some back three options. Don't rate Agulla either. Henson could be a fullback option, but I think he will be gone.

They aren't going to pay all that money only to not play him.
Exactly why it's a stupid move.
They're just going to **** off their current players who will see their game time cut due to the guy their boss splashed half a million on on a chance.

Don't get me wrong, I'm really excited to see Sam in Union, it's just a weird situation.

It always will be.

But, they clearly think he's going to be a first choice player at some point, otherwise they wouldn't agree to that amount.
If he does play well, then all this is irrelevant.

septic peg: Fall guy in waiting.

See how he works with Ford.

He would be a tidy 8, but would he get past there for England? He would probably be best served at 12, but England have some talent there also.

He'd probably be fasttracked into the Saxons ahead of one of Ewers/Dickinson, but I can't see him surpassing Binny or Ben "only turns up for England" Morgan.
