So with the noughties drawing to a close I thought it might be interesting to get peoples ideas as to the best player of the decade in each position. Here's who my considerations were:

Gethin Jenkins (Wal)
Mario Ledesma (Arg)
Carl Hayman (NZ)
Martin Johnson (Eng)
Victor Matfield (RSA)
Richard Hill (Eng)
Richie McCaw (NZ)
Sergio Parisse (Itl)
Fourie du Preez(RSA)
Daniel Carter (NZ)
Bryan Habana (RSA)
Matt Giteau (Aus)
Brian O'Driscoll (Ire)
Cedric Heymans (Fra)
Jason Robinson (Eng)

Unlucky:
Tana Umaga, Mils Muliaina, Shane Williams, Cedric Heymans, Imanol Harinordoquy, Schalk Burger, George Smith, Percy Montgomery, Augustine Pichot, Juan Smith, Lawrence Dalaglio, Rodrigo Roncero, Stirling Mortlock, Joe Rokocoko, John Smit, Sylvian Marconnet, Os du Randt? (he did play in the 2007 RWC although I consider him a player of the 90's)

Weren't the "Noughties" Jan 1st 2000-December 31st 2009?

Indeed they were. This looks difficult, so I may have to take some time.

Screw it I'll do it now.

Jason Robinson
Shane Williams
Brian O'Driscoll
Tana Umanga
Joe Rokocoko
Danny Carter
George Gregan

Lawernce Dallaglio
Richie McCaw
Richard Hill
Victor Matfield
Martin Johnson
Carl Hayman
Rafael Ibanez
Gethin Jenkins

Phil Vickery
Keith Wood
Ali Williams
Neil Back
Augustine Pichot
Stephen Larkham
Brian Habana

Would Keith Wood Qualify? Then Keith Wood at 2 without a doubt for me, ahead of Ibanez who I never could stand.

FdP > Gregan + Pichot

I'd go for this, though (for me) it'd be a tossup between Larkham and Mike Catt, and between Habana and Josh Lewsey

I'm not sure who I'd go for a No. 8, so I've left it. Many options, although I feel Lawernce Dallaglio would be in simply because he was playing for a fantastic England side, while Sergio Parries would get in just because he is playing in a poor Italy side. If I ever make my mind up, then another post shall probably be made.

Wow no one has mentioned the great man that is Jonah Lomu

Not within 2000 -2003
I knew this was coming. Perhaps I should change my posts post-proof reading.

That was the only period within the ten year period I was refuring to that he played at International level, thus meaning he couldn't possibly qualify for the other seven years that Shane has.

And I hoped it would at least be an All Black fan or something who shot me down for bigging up Ickle Shane, not a fellow Wales supporter.
