The Ukraine War thread

**** America. It's shown its true colours voting in Trump and he's just a reflection of what they stand for and what they believe. America is like Elon Musk: rich beyond most people's wild dreams but spends it's time high on drugs and falling out with people who would otherwise be it's friends.

**** them

I really resent the fact that everyone has to tiptoe around the fat old entitled moron.

Hopefully someone at Boeing or in the secret service has a bad day at the office very soon.

What's kinda strange about all this is it doesn't help the American economy. Europe needs to massively increase defence spending which makes sense. But they've pushed so hard are they going to buy American like they use to?

This 👆. They have completely lost the respect
Of the rest of the democratic free world now. This is what Isolationist policies do and playing the playground bully. Sadly America is lost when 50 % of their electorate vote for this and compounded it after Jan 6th.

I would like to think and hope that Europe will buy/produce as much as they can domestically and only use American defence companies where needs must but with a medium to long term strategy of weening ourselves off them just like we should have weened ourselves off Russian gas.

I don't think I'll ever be able to get my head around people like Trump/Musk etc.

They could've gone nowhere near politics and still been some of the richest and most powerful people in the world, but they still want more - it's a disease

More-or-less exactly what I wrote to my MP

Lie Trump gives a single **** about the american economy!
He cares ONLY about his own ego - which is tied to his own finances, TV ratings, and the "admiration" of people that he admires (or is jealous of - same thing in his mind mush) - like Putin, Salman Al Sald, Netenyahu, Musk and (kinda) King Charles

ETA: My letter, in case anyone wants to be lazy, and write something similar to their MP
I am Aidan ..., of GL20 ..., one of your constituents. We've interacted a little on antisocial media, but I wanted to put my thoughts out a little more clearly for you, following the disastrous meeting between Presidents Zelenskyy and Trump.
I'm confident that I don't need to do this, as I'm confident that you'll be doing the right thing anyway; but…

We need to support Ukraine, as much as we are able to. With finances, civilian aid, military aid and intelligence, and probably other stuff that you'll be more familiar with than I.
In my opinion, we need to increase our military spending, by more than Mr Starmer recently announced; and we need to encourage our allies to do likewise. We need to move closer to our European allies, and other like-minded allies further afield, such as Canada, Australia, South Korea etc. Consequently, wherever possible, we need to spend that money within the sphere of European military-industrial-complex, rather than the American MIC. Mr Trump has proven that we cannot rely on the US, they are no longer a strong and reliable ally. We need to divest ourselves on our reliance on the US as much as we realistically can. Whether that's major equipment, parts and repairs, leadership, expertise and intelligence – everything that we can provide for ourselves, or from closer allies, we should look to.
I appreciate that there will be some areas where that's impossible (in the short & medium term) or just hard, but hard shouldn't be an obstacle. Where it's short & medium term impossible, then we (as in Europe+) should look at ways of making it possible in the longer term.

I know that this will be too antagonistic to be realistic, but I would be in favour tabling a debate in parliament on withdrawing the invitation for a state visit by Mr Trump – if he cannot act like an ally, he should not be treated as one. I would favour that invitation then being extended to Mr Zelenskyy instead. I know it would be doomed to fail, but the very existence of such a proposal may act as a wake-up call – an expression of discontent. "For evil to flourish, it only requires good men to do nothing" and all that.

As a partially separate issue, I also think we need to move closer to the EU, and ditch the red lines imposed by Theresa May; and start paving the way towards rejoining – which will be a long road, as we have proven ourselves to be unreliable as well. But we can do what we can – move towards regulatory alignment, freedom of movement etc. Aside from anything else, we need to show the other nationalist populist parties of Europe (AfD, NR, PvV, FdI etc) that we regret not just the result of the 2016 referendum, but that fact that it happened, dividing the country like never before.

You're talking about someone who named their child X Æ A-12.

They don't think like us. They lack empathy and compassion and are heavily addicted to power amongst other things.

I genuinely think whatever sense Trump had left has gone. I don't think he's sound of mind anymore. When he says "I didn't say that", I don't think he's playing games. He just doesn't remember.

We've known this since at least 2016. It's an integral part of his narcissism. If he changes his mind, he genuinely believes that he never held those previous opinions - and if presented with evidence, the only possibility is that the evidence is fabricated.
Of course, he's also happy to outright lie if he thinks he benefits from it in any way, but that's a different (but related) issue.

He'll want to be front and centre at the opening ceremonies of the World Cup and LA Olympics in 2028. He's going to have to fill the stadia with tens of thousands of MAGA idiots in order to avoid mass booing especially in woke California. Straight out of Putin's playbook.

It's all starting to feel like one big protection racket with two rival gang leaders settling their differences and getting together to try and work out how they can screw over all the little guys.

I think Europe needs to start strengthening alliances with the other G26 allies. It was G28 before Russia got booted out. No doubt manchild will want to bring them back into the fold.
